Rochdale friendly

I agree with a lot of the previous comments already made. I was impressed mostly with Walker & Johnstone of the new comers. Jury still out on Amor & the Whitehaven centre Evans. Hatton & Roberts looked very promising especially Roberts who looks to have a turn of pace & a nice side step but is not the biggest of players.

I think Jordan Johnstone will turn out to be the best signing for us. He impressed me yesterday as he always has & has a lovely fast flat pass & he runs forward from the play the ball instead of just passing from the stationary position & has developed a dummy since he was last here. It was good to see Fozard running from receiver too yesterday.

Although Owens was not at his best yesterday  unlike some others I think he will be around for a good few years yet. Yesterday he made several tries with his cut out pass. Yes sometimes they will be intercepted but he still is our most inventive player who we cannot do without. Personally I think his form has dipped since he has been Captain & wish he would surrender that position & also pass on the goal kicking duties. I think his future is more of a 6 than full back.

Of our retained forwards it is perhaps a little worrying that Farnworth & Grady looked to be the strongest runners. Hopefully the support of the new props will take some of the burden off the likes of Farnworth so he will be even more impressive.

Both half backs where rubbish when FOZ moved there we where a lot better Owens has no future in the halves at all. Just hope our regular halves make a difference but more importantly they do not get injured as that will be a major problem. Cannot understand we didn't recruit another half back.

Heard Craven is out for 4 to 6 weeks.

@geoffw have to agree geoff regarding Johnstone. would also add  that his forwards movement and flat pass could help the likes of Tilleke. Often feel we havent yet seen the best of the barnstorming prop. his lack of leg speed means he struggles to gain much momentum in his carries when receiving passes off the floor

@mick-george he didn't play on Sunday because he has a hamstring problem.

Hamstring injuries do have a habit of recurring. At least a chunk of that time is in pre-season.

@mt disappointing , but the season is a Marathon not a sprint. We should have enough cover in Lyons and foz until he is back
