As I’ve been saying since before Christmas, we have been doing the same things wrong for the past three years by not signing the players we need to make us competitive.

Nothing against the players that we have but they just aren’t good enough to compete at this level. Marty Smith, as an example, was a good player about a decade ago. His legs have gone now but any chance he has to use his remaining footballing skills is wasted because he is playing behind beaten forwards.

I don’t think the club can do anything at the moment - season started so no real players available, only loaners are recalled the first time they show up at the club and no coaches readily available and no money to tempt anyone who is half decent and daft enough to consider joining.

if I was on the board I’d scrap this season and come up with a plan to find a new coach and about four props, a scrum half and a stand off that can play at the level required in this division. In the meantime I’d be looking to bring in someone to help SF out as he is out of his depth, although like I say I’m not sure from where.

Royston fair comments and there must be someone not coaching who could help with no pressure.

Some on here reckon we can't afford to dump Finnigan, I reckon we can't afford to stick with him. Crowds will plummet, income lost. Our season is free falling into bottom half garbage, we're only mid April what a shambles

@royston-vasey We can't keep writing off seasons, year in year out. This season MUST be salvaged somehow, otherwise gates will dwindle further and that's not a good platform for 2023.As Cuerdly says, It's only April. You can't throw in the towel after two months. There was a  an air of positivity and a feel good factor not long ago and crowd numbers were encouraging at around 3600.Only Widnes can reverse that in a few short weeks.

@sinbad I would really, really love it if someone or some group of people could turn the club around. Hostly, nothing would please me more.

Perhaps I need to lighten up a bit and just try and enjoy the game rather than worrying about the state of the game and the club. Try a one day at a time approach.

On the plus side, we were on our uppers in the late 60’s and 7 or 8 years later we were the ‘Cup Kings’ and a dozen years after that we were World Champions. I guess there’s always a bit of hope.

There’s no excuse for writing off the season at this point. There is very little between third and tenth in the table and whilst we can’t be confident of a play off spot on current form I would expect the coach and players to be giving their all towards turning it around and finishing in the top six.

@mt Totally agree MT. We have 11 home games and 8 away games left and the board, the coaches and players should be aiming to win the home games and most of the away games, which we can if the team can recover its early season form. There is little or no chance of beating Featherstone or Leigh with, the full-time squads that they have, and possibly York, but other games could be winnable.

This will need a massive turn around in form from the recent dire performances and the Board and the coach need to respond to the fans disappointment (to say the least) at recent performances, lacking any coherent plan or direction.

Posters have been commenting on the lack of business acumen on the Board. One statistic they need to think about is the number of fans walking away from the club. If we continue current form, even more fans will walk away. A reduction of 1000 walk-up fans will mean a reduction of income of around £20,000 at each home game or £220,000 over the remaining 11 home games this year. Maybe they ought to be thinking of how they could invest in a prop and/or a half-back for the remainder of the season, both to strengthen the squad and give some hope to fans of a turn around in form. It could be a good investment, assuming there are players out there who are available and we could attract.

I know it's clear we haven't got a pot to piss in..but we really have to find a way to remove finningan as head coach and try and salvage the season and try to get the best out of these players.

@pascal Would love to have had Neil Kelly back but there is also 1 of his assistants Paul Woodward....tonnes of league and union experience which could only benefit the club

I think Friday's game against Leigh was a shot across the bows for the Board, and I don't mean the scoreline. The turnout from the Home Faithfull was appalling, considering it was our 'Derby' game, it was decent weather, and it was on a Bank Holiday.

Maybe as not many in the town expected us to give them a game (like in the CC), and so kept their money for the Batley game, remains to be seen. But, Batley will only bring a handful of fans, and if we are only pulling in about 1200, then the alarm bells will/should be ringing. If Fans have started to stop attending, then it's inevitable that VIQI contributions will start to drop off, from the now ex-fans.

So, when they 'sack' Finnigan, by public demand, who is getting the gig? Who'd want the gig? Who is available, and what salary would they demand?

And where are these 4 big props coming from, that folk on here think are out there, just waiting to be signed? There aren't any, otherwise they'd already be on contract.

Up The Chemics

Paulie xx

When the chips were well and truly down many upped  their VIQI contributions and bought Season Tickets.

A small group actually found the cash, from savings or pension funds maybe, to make a desperate bid to buy out the club.

Many from the former group, like me, could probably have found enough cash to have matched the Board's bid, but we didn't! The Board might still be open to offers to join!

It is a bit cheap to sit anonymously behind a keyboard and preach tbh. Many fans are still supporting the club with voluntary effort and hopefully that will continue, but in the meantime I am sure that suggestions from anyone with innovative financial or marketing ideas for improving our standing would be welcome.

Can't dispute the board's commitment to the club.

What I think it is fair to dispute is whether the Rugby advice they have been getting has been good and whether they are asking enough of the right questions of the CEO and the Coach. Or whether there is an element of blind loyalty.
