As mind-boggling suggestions go, this one is up there.

Not heard a great deal of rumours - beyond John Stankevitch.

Some sites pluck names out of thin air.

Callum walker is maybe the worst

Just

But all widnes fans should be allowed to express their views

Will potential applicants see the Bradford job as the one that offers more potential? Bradford are not planning to interview until the end of May, so how will that impact on the Widnes process?

Hopefully from those from UK and abroad who have supposedly shown interest in the job, there will be decent applicants. Finney has recently said that the club is financially stable and sustainable and that in his view has the most balanced squad it has had for years when everyone is fit. It is good to read about the financial viability, but not sure whether the comment about the squad will be universally accepted on here.

Personally, I would like to see any early appointment prior to the Whitehaven game. Another loss in that game under the interim coach will result in even more fans walking away from the Club.

Yes it’s rock and a hard place for the club at the moment with regards to the appointment of new coach but with the addition of the 2 new lads and dupree going who already had one foot out the door could bring in some positivity and competition for places 😬

I am not too optimistic about this season after a good start but I hope for the fans who go the games that we can start to get a couple of wins.
I font know much about the players we have brought in but maybe another 1 or 2 players and we can be competitive

John stankervich does at least coach youth teams

My suggestion of rob powell was of course pulled out of thin air, but Powells background is of course in bringing through junior talent

Pity he has been lost to union same as danny ward coaching Rossyln Park, so Danny Ward and Rob powell is of course a good combination, but well outside of our salary band.

Im not critical of our board of course.

In very difficult financial conditions they have steered the ship admirably.

Im guessing some fans want more

Would john do any worse than simon

Probably not

He was a respected player

Its a case of getting someone for maybe 35 grand a year so that limits substantially who will get the job.

Alan Kilshaw at hunslet and previously rochdale is someone i like

Lets be realistic, Finney wants a 'yes' man, and I heard Henderson is put off by Finney's hands on approach as he is not a yes man. Finney states the squad is the most balanced squad we have had for a while but for injuries, welcome to Rugby League Phil, where have you been all this time! Injuries are part of the game and how you handle them as a club determines how successful your season will be.

I fear that a new coach will come in and it will be the same situation again after a season and a half due to our 'James RULE' clone. Finney brings in the players and the coach, yet when things aren't going well the coach is gone but Finney is still there.

Over the years the amount of parents that pulled their kids from our academy because of Finney is unreal.

We will not have a modicum of success whilst Finney is ruling the roost, and if the board have any sense they will replace him.

@wrlfcefc1989 I agree. I'm not sure why they persist with him. Do we need a CEO? I wonder what his background is apart from teaching. Also where did Ryan Obrien come from and what's his background?

Ryan O’Brien is Widnes born and former Academy player. He spent three years as a volunteer with the Academy, whilst studying for and gaining a first class honours degree in Sports and Exercise Science. In 2016, he was appointed as Youth Performance Manager and promoted to Head of Youth Performance in 2019. He has held head coaching roles at Scholarship, Academy and Reserves level and working with the First team as a qualified coach in 2019/2020 and appointed Assistant Coach in 2021. Compare this to Matt Peet at Wigan. Wigan appoint Peet as Head Coach and Widnes .....?

As for Finney, some question exactly what he does at the club, others claim he is a control freak wanting to do everything. Why not let the Board decide whether we need a CEO and whether or not he is up to the job? At the next fans forum (presuming that there will be one at some stage this season), why don’t some of those constantly criticising Phil Finney raise their concerns about his ability to do the job or do they prefer to criticise from the safety of anonymity?

Do you actually know all this to be true or have you just heard it somewhere? Have you spoken to Henderson about his attitude to Finney? As I have suggested elsewhere, why not voice your concerns (with supporting evidence) directly with Club directors at the next fans forum?

I also found his comment about us having a balanced squad baffling, when we are clearly short on props and and the Squad too small to cover for inevitable injuries during the season.

If what you say is correct and Finney is a “control freak”, who decides on which players to bring in, only wants a “yes man” as coach and who caused a number of parents to withdraw their children from the Academy because of his attitude, then I would agree that he is not the man for the job. Maybe you need to bring your concerns to the attention of Directors, with any evidence as opposed to gossip and innuendo.

I personally know next to nothing aboit Phil Finney apart from negative comments from the parents of former youth players who were not given contracts

I know less about Ryan O, Brien but a first class honours degree and 3 or 4 years at the club is a decent grounding.

But not for this season.

Indeed i dont believe we need a paid CEO at this time
