It would be nice to bring a couple of players in, but there's a possibility that our squad budget is less than last year, due to some of the cash flow being removed.

@mckviking Like most fans on here, I'm well aware of the "winning starts on Monday and it starts in the front office" phrase and I don't disagree with it as a medium to long term solution. But we have an immediate need to strengthen our team to improve results, or our attendances will fall even further and our income stream dry up even more. Then, we'll be lucky if we can pay the back room staff whose job it is to bring in extra finance. We need to stop this downward spiral that has been going on for many years now.

There's been a 'holiday camp' culture around this club for at least the last 30 years

I see we have signed Eckersley 19 year old centre from Wigan on a 1 month loan.

@dan1 this is a good start, I hope to see 1 or 2 more come in and provide some competition for places so players have to perform or sit in the stands

Logan Astley might be worth a months loan aswell as Lyons doesn’t seem to be up to the job

Agree Lyons is bang average and only good for a few games if we are desperate. Glad Kear has signed a loan player, as some of them don't deserve to wear the Widnes jersey. We don't mind losing if give it there all but some players taking the piss and non of us fans have had an apology for disgraceful performances. Lawton just being a lazy lump.

His nickname should be lardy Lawton

Presumably, this incoming loan player will replace Wilde at centre. In the absence of any further loans/signings this week, what other changes would posters suggest for the Swinton game?

Craven returning from suspension, maybe to scrum half with Owens at stand-off, leaving Fleming at full-back. Hatton back in the squad and maybe Johnstone back.

Other than Grady, I am not sure any of the other forwards come out of the Dewsbury game with much credit and you could select any from the rest to drop for the Swinton game, presuming Kear wants to get a message across to the players. Maybe Lawton and Amor to be “rested”, although in my view Amor has been a decent player for us and Lawton is perhaps the only player who can break a tackle near the line, when he seems bothered to turn up for a game. Isn’t it time to give Tilleke a game if Kear thinks he is good enough. If not, they may as well loan him out and look to bring in a replacement on loan for the season.

I reckon we will win on Friday, but only if the players react positively to the abysmal performance against Dewsbury and the negative reaction of fans.

Frank I am hoping he replaces Flemming he has become lazy and uninterested we will see JK's metal in droping out of form players but I won't hold my breath.I was never a great fan of Edge but this season he has impressed me very much and deserves his place, just pray he is not made the scapegoat.

Also, Mick George, in Edge's favour is that he is the best goalkicker in the team - when Owens allows him to kick, that is...

Edge has had a decent season, not been massively impressed by Flemming in the centres, as he just seems to jog forward into the tackle, rather than run with pace. I noticed him doing that from fullback too. Our back line play is pretty static (which it has been for years to be fair), with everyone standing still to receive the ball, then moving it on without drawing a man, which usually means the winger or whoever receives the final ball, has the opposition all over him or has no room and gets forced into touch. Even pretty average Widnes teams before our Glory days, could: a) tackle, b) back up a break and c) draw a man and pass. We seem to have lost at least the backing up and drawing a man, presumably because we play a more regimented game!

Lets hope we can find a few lads who can liven us up a bit!

@wirralviking

He never takes the ball up from PTB yet Ince Edge Dixon and Millar do it to give the forwards a break and to clear the line.
