People love all sports and if your crunchie at football you could do good in Rugby JJ. If good entertainment people will try new things too. So marketing, offers etc can be done.
We will be without Craven for the Cup game, together with currently injured players, Millar, Gilmore, Johnstone and Roberts. Will that be critical for the Dewsbury game - surely we should beat a League1 team even if they are flying in that Division - without need for any loans to cover for the injured players. Craven and probably Johnstone and Owens(?), will be available for the Swinton game. Not sure we need to bring in anyone for that game, unless there are further injuries.
Do we really need to bring in someone on short-term loan for the odd game, who may or may not fit in, unless we have no cover in the squad? I would hope that the Club is looking to strengthen the squad during the season, with at least a half-back and possibly a centre, who are as good as, if not better than we already have. This is probably needed to consolidate a play-off position and then have a decent run in the play-offs.
It has been shown that Toulouse are beatable; and Featherstone are not on the same level as Leigh were last season. Several clubs will be thinking they are in with a chance if they can get to the play-offs this season, albeit Featherstone will be short-priced favourites.
My guess is that Kear has already identified a few potential loan deals/signings, to be pursued at the right time. It would be good to get some update from the club, on their plans regarding short-term loans to cover injuries or season long-loans/signings to strengthen the squad.
Agreed, Frankg.
So you think the squad is big enough even though we have long term injuries and lost two players ?Agreed, Frankg.
Mick George I agree with you mate. We are on the bare bones and could easily lose 2 to 4 players in the next few games. Gilmore out another 8 weeks and to be honest Lyons only good cover for a few games, as in my opinion not good enough for a top 4 team. Craven been off the boil and has his injury issues too. So we lose a prop and centre plus several injuries and for me a few signings for a few months would help
I may have missed it, but is Joe Mellor still at Leigh? He isn't getting any first team shots atm if he is. Now 32 year old so getting slower rather than faster but would be a good support for us atm.
Looks like Lam is determined to play his lad, not surprisingly, and Reynolds, so maybe worth some exploration at least!
Look at it logically, if possible - we are 2 players down that have been released for different reasons, we started with a squad of 28 ?
Which would have been decided to be enough, now minus 2 without injuries, we have to replace the 2, or have we changed the required number ?
we need extra players simple as that - centre, half back, prop
@ditton-donkey couldn’t agree more, communication from the club regarding this is essential to keep fan base engaged. It’s not the 60/70/80/90’s anymore the club has to engage with fans more, weather it be by social media or an evening with… injured players/captain etc it has to be more proactive and market itself to attract more ticket sales/customers at shop/stadium. It’s run like a part time scout hut. How can you expect the players to act professionally when the club is amateurs from top to bottom and I don’t take any satisfaction from saying this
Dewsbury away could be a difficult game, they are 3 from 3 and we will struggle to put out 21 fit players
absolute garbage performance does not help
So where do we find the new players desperately needed to turn this around, we can all agree that we need at least 2 more players in order for us to kick on this season. Everyone is saying a half back to cover Gilmore as Lyons sadly isn’t the solution, a big centre and maybe another prop?
Players from the third division or whatever it is called. That's realistic.
Apologies for posting this on the wrong thread earlier.
Halifax have strengthened their squad by signing Ryan Lannon from Salford.
The forward, who can play in the back-row or the middle, has made 97 Super League appearances during his career, featuring for the likes of Salford and Hull KR. In total, he has made over 100 appearances in all competitions for the Reds.
I sincerely hope we are looking to do the same. If Halifax can do it, surely we can too.

Can we afford transfer fees? If we can, not sure Lannon is the player I’d sign
@viking25 I'm not suggesting we should have signed Lannon, but for Halifax fans, signing players to strengthen their squad is a declaration of intent, showing that that they know what they need to do and are taking action to do something about it. Call it ambition or simply a desire to right some wrongs. Either way, they are doing something. I have no idea what/who we can afford but I am assuming money that should have been paid to Johnson and Evans is now available to be paid to someone else. We cannot sit back and hope that things will improve when injured players return. Hope is not a strategy!
