I know where you are coming from SG, but I think the days of civic pride are long gone!

I've felt over the last ten years or so, too many local lads have been given a living from the club who weren't up to it, and as they were local lads were excused some of the vitriol directed at others. I always felt this was down to Finney looking after his boys.

You can probably tell from a couple of my posts that I am no fan of CH, but we definitely do need an outsider to come in and rip it up and start again, not just of players, but culture too.

To be fair I think fans just want to see the best team possible on the pitch, wherever they come from I do not care less. Some players from Widnes are fans, but others see it as just a job. Over the years we have had players who have given everything for the shirt, even if not from Widnes because they are sportsmen who want to win. Hopefully we can get an environment of team work and a winning culture. 😎

Joining Smith at Hull FC iirc.

That's another club who have had similar 'local' favourites and been let down.

I just hope that we are offering the going rate and not penny pinching!!

Sounds very  much as if we will be given assurances but not a name, until season end. That is sensible and gives the new appointee to have a say in any signings. We just have to hope that it will be a progressive appointment.

Of course the journo curse of the 'rumoured that' fictions will be there to discuss!!!

Betts in the running apparently, along with Littler.

Purtill, Cummins, Kear all outsiders. What changed? What was ripped up?

For me the last decent coach was Paul Cullen*, he got the 'on field box' ticked for SL, sadly his wife was really poorly, and he left. I never rated Betts.

*puts on tin helmet

Paulie xx

Agree with you re Cullen, don't really have an opinion on Betts tbh. Some of the respected gurus rate him and when he was here we don't really know how much freedom he was given as a coach. The dreaded Rule was here don't forget.

More recently he was at Newcastle as a Director of Rugby rather than a coach so he may have had some influence but just helping O'Carrol.

Our Board now are genuine supporters and may give him a bigger hand in what happens, no doubt Belshaw could gain a lot from DB's experience. Plus as he isn't 'employed' atm he may be available immediately.

Please not Betts - people thought rugby under kear was boring, bring on the 5 drives and a kick then

littler - not sure at all

Poor choices for appointments. Not sure who went for the job, but not got great win percentage ratios at their clubs in management. Hope proven wrong but not my cup of tea 🙈

I understand people can’t always say who they heard a rumor from but have the club been seen interviewing candidates for the new coach? From a journalist a while ago it appears quite a few have been linked but nothing from then on

Journalists and agents are just looking after themselves imo. It helps bump up offers for players, puts money into agents pockets and gives the journo something to say, or 'possibilities' to discuss.

We are just the honest punters who feed them all!!!!

Let’s see how belshaw goes until the season’s end is probably the club’s view

Maybe CH and board choosing the squad and belshaw as full time coach could be the way forward

we either go big name or a novice with no expectations

I don’t think a league 1 coach with poor resume is the answer
