Does anyone else think it’s time to update the badge to a better more accurate representation of the Vikings maybe go old school with it or something modern? Just something a lot better then the current one from the old regime a proper fresh start is needed new coach and a new identity 😂

What about the cock with 3 wotsits that's on the banner at the Albion?

I’ve said for a while that the Logo the club use currently represents the Steve O’Connor era and should have been moved immediately after we nearly went to the wall,I’d would definitely favour a change.

@jeffjonno definitely going forward we need to build into next season starting now sadly I think the play off’s are gone but with a new branding and right coach I definitely think we can get the buzz back around the club that we’ve been missing for sometime

You get my nomination for post of the decade, we are winless, coachless in tatters and you want the badge changing FFS.

We know this isn’t the most pressing issue at the moment, but maybe this is something that can be looked at at the end of the season.

The logo represents O’Connor’s legacy for me. The guy rolled up in 2007 and laughed at the club badge (Vikings head), said it was crunchie and presented to the nodding dogs a new logo his daughter had drawn.

He took the piss out of the club crest (which I had no love for) that day, to replace it with a bland corporate logo.

I don’t like the Vikings tagline. I think it devalues the clubs image and separates it from its illustrious history. (Maybe that’s a good thing)

Personally, I’d have Widnes RLFC with a club crest based on the OG town Crest. Drop the Vikings; however, maintain a small element for merch. Embrace a dual nickname of “The Vikings” and “The Chemics”. Although Widnes being referred to as The Vikings makes me cringe.

@winny-ingram I agree that a rebranding could help with the change  that is desperately needed. We have become a part time club from top to bottom. Without investment we are looking to be in the championship for the foreseeable future. I don’t know what the answer is but a change is coming and hopefully we get the next appointment of coach right

The 'Chemics' and the 'Vikings' are the two identifying features of this town's rugby team, through the old traditional chemical industry which defines our town and its history (and incidentally which funded all of our success from 1987-1992) and also the Norse words vid, meaning wide, and noese, meaning nose 'wide nose' part of the River Mersey, which runs under our shared bridge.  In the 10th century the Vikings sailed up the River Mersey and settled on the area of land which they called "Vidnes". These have to be the features which continue to identify us as a club, in my view.  I am also a fan of our old Industria Ditat crest - the motto of Widnes - the Latin phrase meaning "Industry Enriches".  The players could do with a bit more industry on the field and have the aggression of the Vikings in the middles!  COYV!

Nail on the head, for me.

I could understand the Viking nickname if we were York RLFC, but not us, I've never liked it.

As you say, the logo is just a reflection of O'Connor, Rule, O'Connor & Munson's tenure and raping of the Club. It needs to go. Halifax & Leigh have rebranded, to quite some success. I think maybe it's time to do something new in WA8.

Paulie xx
