@gpo1971 - Someone who has achieved something worthwhile at at least one of the clubs he has coached? If we can’t tick that box we might as well give Neil Belshaw a chance.
I don't know mate. People seem to be saying who they don't want it to be rather than who they do.
So who then?
@gpo1971 Not someone who is coaching a team half way down the bottom tier of professional RL.
Can anyone seriously say he’s done anything to merit the job (if he gets it)?
Hard to answer that question without a list of the applicants tbh! I think James Ford would be a decent shout but I’ve no idea if he is either interested or on the club’s radar.

That would be a good shout. If he was interested, no idea if he is. But yeah, add him to the list of possibles.
So, that's 1.
@gpo1971 Betts, I think would’ve been a better option than Littler. Ford, as mentioned above.
Alan Kilshaw is always mentioned and done relatively similar to Littler in the Championship and doing ok with Hunslet.
Murray from Workington.
My ideal candidate would’ve been a SL assistant. Eamon O’Carroll before he went to Bradford. Even Kurt Haggerty from Salford.
I think at this level the players need up skilling to win the fine margins in games and as most teams in the Champ are of the same ability. Organisation and motivation only gets you so far as Kear proved
Wouldn't the argument against appointing the Oldham coach apply to the Hunslet and Workington coaches? Murray maybe is a candidate.
Coaches from the Championship regularly leave for SL Assistant jobs, Grix most recently.
So maybe Murray, Ford, Betts, Littler so far.
In fairness to Alan Kilshaw, he got Rochdale promoted and is arguably overachieving on expectations at Hunslet. So I would put his credentials as being better than those of Littler.
OK fair enough. So maybe choose one from them, where there doesn't seem to a massive gulf in terms of ability, record and aspiration, and there we go. That's where we're at.
The other option is a player with no coaching background.
Littler not the answer, Oldham have spent more than most in league one this year, another yes man for CH, similar to NB.
Kilshaw is higher in the table with Hunslet.Former Rochdale coach aged 39 Experience in Australia coaching a country team and once involved with Warrington Wolves youth development and coached England Academy. From St Helens.Has applied once or twice in the past for the Widnes job.Maybe it's his turn now.

This is why I don't understand, if you are going to appoint a manager from league 1, surely you appoint the best manager in the division and according to stats, Oldham are average.
I know we may not have the pull that we have had previously but show some ambition and secure the best manager we can realistically attain. Where is Danny Ward, Henderson, Mcdermott Ford? Managers who have have achieved success.
I remember wanting Paul Rowley, a manager we should have made a move for before he was appointed at Salford.
If we all knew who was going for the job, then we could see who people would like then. Duffy, Kilshaw, Ward, Marshall and Pryce seem better options. But unless we know it is difficult to comment, but whoever gets it better improve us. 😂
Liam Finn is ripping it up at Dewsbury (as we know from our cup exit), he'd be my choice. He's from Siddal and Grix is leaving Halifax, so maybe he'll get a gig there.
