Article by Flash saying we are looking at Dufty
reading between the lines it suggests Maizen is off
thoughts?
He's too good for this level.
I agree he is too good for the Championship & if Maizen is off he certainly will be soon too I would have thought? It would be a shame if Maizen leaves but he did not seem to settle & have as great an impact in 2025 as I expected. It would put us in a bit of a predicament though if he goes on the season's eve. We badly need his speed.
@geoffw agree his speed would be a big loss
to be fair I was expecting lower Super League clubs to be sniffing round not only us, but most of the Championship clubs, looking to fill spaces.
there isn’t enough talent really for 14 SL teams imo and when injuries start to bite I expect players will be targeted
maybe I’m being pessimistic but I can’t see a fit regularly playing Abdull not being poached by a SL team before the year is out
we do not want, or need Dufty
we have at least three capable fullbacks
Let’s talk real here, we take Dufty any day of the week. At his best, he reminds me almost of a Hanbury style player, flare and pace. In the championship he’d run riot through the defence.
Whether we can pull together a good enough deal to entice him is another question. Would be a major coup but can’t see it myself
@dick-turnip while I think it's never going to happen..let's be realistic dufty is about ten levels above other options at FB...while Owens Fleming and edge are as you say capable ..none of them bring what dufty does ,which is electric pace a massive sidestep and scores tries for fun ...only thing I'd be concerned about is why wire are so keen to get rid at literally any cost ...as others have said be a shame if maizen is going because we've absolutely not seen the best of him ...and would love to have seen him revert to the wing where he played for Halifax..with dufty at FB...
Dufty is still SL standard, he should be able to get another gig there. Obvs, I'd welcome him with open arms but I can't see it.
I think the idea of Maizen has always been slightly better than the reality. There's a good player there but it's not quite happened. Would leave us short though.
One of them couldn't catch a cold and the other couldn't tackle a cold.we do not want, or need Dufty
we have at least three capable fullbacks
I thought Maizen was beginning to find his feet with us and starting to play well before his late clattering and missing of a few games. Whilst, after his return, he played soundly rather than setting the world on fire, that was understandable and I was/still am looking forward to watching him this season.
Regarding Dufty, should we somehow get him on a watertight contract - great - one of them may be competent to play centre or wing with the other at FB.
Thinking positively, it doesn't necessarily mean that if we miraculously sign Dufty it automatically means Maizen is going.
In my opinion, if ! Maizen is going, we would be better spending our funds elsewhere, Dufty I believe brings issues, wasn't there some issues at wire last year ( not sure exactly what)
Dufty is a vey bad apple, one that we most definitely do not want in the Widnes barrel!! Dire are getting rid for a very good reason(s), he has been the centre of a number of disciplinary issues, some public, some not so much. He is currently training with the reserves in the evening, nowhere near the dire first team and will not be again!
Do not touch!!!
Get him signed! But why is Maizen supposed to be leaving? He was at the kit launch event and will be better for a pre-season.
Could Dufty be a running 6 for us? Just asking for a friend, as Coleman was looking for one for this year.
