Big game against Crusaders

Never thought I would say it but today’s game against Crusaders is a massive one for our points difference. The two games played yesterday against our close rivals went our way and could really define our final position, Dons losing heavily and Barrow getting beat at home.
If we win today we are two points behind Barrow and play them next week so we can go fourth with a win and even if Doncaster win their game in hand a better points difference will keep us there. So we have to be merciless and just destroy our Coventry bears best ever.

This is an odd season to say the least. The fiasco with the fixture list and uncertainty about the play-off structure and the on-off cup competition, with little interest or benefit in winning. This in in addition to the uncertainty surrounding the game as a whole, particularly below SL.

Whether we finish 4th or 10th, does it matter? If we finish 10th and get to the play-off final, will that be a successful season? We have reached a cup final, but what interest has it generated, in Widnes, London or in the wider RL fanbase? We may give London a game, or if they have a bad day, beat them (wishful thinking!!!), but will it help us financially or in our quest to get into SL?

The standard of the game at SL level has gone backwards. Personally, I rarely bother to watch games on Sky, or switch off before the end. There is no excitement any more in my view. This may well be due to my age, having supported Widnes and watching games for over 50 years, but now attending few games, but listening on Merseyside.

I will be glad to see the back of this season and just hope that those running the game manage to sort out the mess that they have created; and maybe there is a chance of rugby league being played in towns like Widnes in 50 years time. Currently, it seems doubtful that the game will survive another five years outside SL.

Martin I admire the enthusiasm. We will win by over 80 points just by showing up. With London averaging a 64 point winning margin per game and no promotion anyway plus a 10 teams in the play offs today doesnt matter.

I went last year and I have a season ticket, but i'm not going today. It will be 100 - nil so spending the day with the family before 3 home games in a row. That sounds a bit negative reading it back, but its also reality.

@frankg I worry, after how they dispatched doncaster yesterday (although Donny did have a player sent off) that our chances of winning the final are less than 0.

i also worry it may be a severely Embarrasing score line. I thought losing to Sheff at Wembley was bad but this could be even worse.

I'd better change my sat nav settings from Colwyn Bay to Coventry.

Paulie xx
