A superb performance today against a full time team, remember.  In the final analysis, we played with 12 for 10 minutes, had a try ruled out in the first half for a forward pass and had 3 or 4 chances to get two scores ahead late in the second half.  Poor kick options and then 2 x knock ons from flat passes cost us dear in the end with those.  Then there was the debacle of all three officials not seeing that 4 x York players were offside at the bomb which was kicked on by their centre which led to the gld for their penultimate try and got them back in it.

A much better effort and performance from the lads, but for me just lacked that little bit of extra quality near the line.

Finally, it always amazes me how that particular referee always, without fail since 2001, leaves the field at Widnes to a crushendo of boos and without shaking the hand of a single Widnes payer every time he comes here.

I have never, though, heard him bood as long and loudly as he was today, and justifiably so.

Regarding the officials not seeing 4 York players offside at the bomb, they also didn't see the York players more obviously offside at most of their PTBs.

As for not shaking the hands of the Widnes players - if you were a player would you want to shake his?

I certainly wouldn't. His throat maybe, but not his hand.

@erik-the-red " Superb Performance" may be stretching it a bit, as we lacked composure and organisation at key times in second half! Very much improved though, lots of effort and quite a bit of skill on display. What on earth was going on after our breakaway, that we just couldn't finish off I just don't know! No one "in charge" players standing around with no urgency what so ever, with the game there to be won! Such a pity as they came so close!

It was a good first half

We totally lost direction in the last 20.

It was a game we should have won

The effort was certainly there today and maybe if Field hadn't been ruled out for the rest of the game we would have had the energy to hang on or even score again. I thought our pack was generally very good.

That being said, some of the attacking play in the second half was clueless, the Lawton kick through and then the breakaway; both were golden opportunities that should have been taken. Not Danny's best game today either: nor Lawton's.

Overall, happy with the effort, disappointed with the quality in the second half. And hopefully it is a while until we see another episode of the Ben Thaler show!

Lawton was very poor, but overall the team played well for 60 minutes

I think very poor is stretching it, did make a couple of errors and the kick through backfired but he made plenty of ground with ball in hand and was solid defensively.

Clueless on the break WV Craven, Owens and Lawton where all through but never took the tackle and tried stupid off loads and of course the pathetic kick from Lawton. None of those breaks was on the last tackle or even the forth tackle, We even went in touch from a scrum on the first tackle in their 30. We cannot manage a bank account never mind a game, Flapping Jack needs to be removed as captain as all he does is flap his arms about and does diddly.

@wirralviking Absolutely no idea what we were trying to do after that break, It was as if we went into a slow motion trance. Needed someone to take control.

Much better performance for 60 mins but a game we should have won.

I would like to see us sign Eribe Doro permanently if we can, I thought he was excellent yesterday

We have completely fudging forgotten how to win and see out a game! Played much better yesterday.. but cocked up a few half breaks and you just knew York would score to win the game.Hopefully kear can sort these losses out.

Don't normally moan about officials but that twix Thaler loves the limelight and loves to get involved... Thinks he something that bellend.

Another scoreless 40 minutes.Just one try in the second half and we win.We can blame the ref all we like but if you don't score in 40 minute halves then usually you don't win.

Fair comment, though York wouldn’t have scored in the first half without the input of some bizarre officiating.

@sinbad Yes, I think you are absolutely right.  We did needed to be more clinical when our opportunities presented themselves in the second half, that's for sure.  In fact, had Jamie ELLIS not have had such an unusually average game, I suspect we may have had a more difficult afternoon.

Some of our senior players are just not firing still, although I thought OWENS, SMITH, FLEMING and INCE looked better in the back line today with some better go-forward from the pack.  I still think that we are losing games due to a lack of fitness sometimes, too.  That said, and I reiterate, we played again for 10 minutes with 12 men and that is energy sapping at the back end of a game against one of the top 3 sides in this division - regardless of whether they are full time or not.  Dropped ball in key positions (a review of the video shows who the culprits are this week) is a killer...and so it proved in the last 5 mins..........
