The effort was certainly there today and maybe if Field hadn't been ruled out for the rest of the game we would have had the energy to hang on or even score again. I thought our pack was generally very good.

That being said, some of the attacking play in the second half was clueless, the Lawton kick through and then the breakaway; both were golden opportunities that should have been taken. Not Danny's best game today either: nor Lawton's.

Overall, happy with the effort, disappointed with the quality in the second half. And hopefully it is a while until we see another episode of the Ben Thaler show!

I do not know this years conversion percentage, but a decent goal kicker would have seen us home today.

It is easy to blame the officials, but today it was justified.

@cj91 Davies was in front on Lawton on the break- if he passed it to he him it would’ve been a forward pass.

@mt exactly, Thaler wanted to be the star of the show! And he succeeded!

Gilmore for halfback next year doing well at Batley and a Widnes lad. This level decent enough. Passion is back and Pinkies tonight 😂😜🥖🥖👍

@pascal would Gilmore come back? If I was him I’d stay at batley. He’s playing well and scoring a lot of points

maybe being the big fish in a little pond suits him

Personally I think we should be looking for a player who is a young talented super league fringe player on a season long loan for a halfback with craven getting towards the end of his career. Someone who wants to get minutes and put himself in the window for a super league team just to get us through next season and then see what happens with the restructuring

Well if they are good enough mate, but look at the best teams in the league halfbacks? They have experience but not so over the hill like Smith.

Hmmm. There’s a reason why Thaler is officiating in the championship and not in SL.

However, despite his efforts it was a game that we should have won, and I hate the expression “gallant losers”

@mr-h

Not scoring in the second half probably was a major factor today.

Tired arse excuses blaming the ref.

A superb performance today against a full time team, remember.  In the final analysis, we played with 12 for 10 minutes, had a try ruled out in the first half for a forward pass and had 3 or 4 chances to get two scores ahead late in the second half.  Poor kick options and then 2 x knock ons from flat passes cost us dear in the end with those.  Then there was the debacle of all three officials not seeing that 4 x York players were offside at the bomb which was kicked on by their centre which led to the gld for their penultimate try and got them back in it.

A much better effort and performance from the lads, but for me just lacked that little bit of extra quality near the line.

Finally, it always amazes me how that particular referee always, without fail since 2001, leaves the field at Widnes to a crushendo of boos and without shaking the hand of a single Widnes payer every time he comes here.

Much improved performance today. Field was taken out with an elbow from Paulie P imo.

York aren’t full time are they? I’ve seen a couple of mentions on here saying they are but not convinced it is accurate. Strong part time side with some good players though.
