Just back from the HJS.
Thought Wire would cut loose when they scored either side of the interval from your knock-ons, but....
You stuck with it, bossed the game from then on, and ran out deserved winners.

By far the best £10 I will spend this year, threw the ball around, backed up superbly and made breaks! Onwards and upwards from this, as the new team gels with games under their belts we could have some enjoyable games.
Sounds like the sort of workout that we needed!! Well done!!!!
Dec Patton was great, his kicking game is fantastic. His passing and organising was also spot on. I think he has the ability to play SL. I thought the same thing when we lost to Swinton in the Sundecks cup game in the first game of last season. If he can maintain that form for the season and we are lucky with injuries we will go well.
I do feel the squad is a bit small and after the first 20 ish players if any are out the quality we have to bring in drops off a bit. I guess this is the same in most squads. I would just like another couple of quality experienced players, especially at centre and prop. I don't know what if any budget we have. Warrington have plenty of young lads they can lend us, but i didn't see a big prop playing for them and think I hope we can get him in on loan.
Great result, we looked better than this time last year and ended up finishing 5th. If we play to our potential we should go on a bit of a cup run that should help early season momentum both on and off the pitch.
And a big plus was coming out of the game with no serious injuries. 😉👍
I did not go to comment but listening to Alan Colemans interview he mentioned we had no injuries and probably the smallest squad in the Championship. Hopefully this a sign looking for 2 or 3 players but I feel take a few loans from Leigh and a few dual from Warrington. There is 30k in the WVIPS kitty and if can get some more members possibly we can steal someone from Salford 😂
On a positive my mate was very satisfied with most of the players but as Dan said the quality after are 21 not the best. Doolan if given more game time could be worth a small contract?
Always good to win at Warrington regardless of the circumstances!
That being said, wouldn't be surprised if by the time the league starts we make 2 or 3 DR moves for their players....

It was (by far) the starting 17 that Wire will have on parade on day one of SL, so........
I agree with you it's a distinct poss (cert?) that one or two wearing primrose and blue last night, will be "temporary Chemics" during the coming campaign.
Spelly.

Lets hope the inspiration of playing against his old team carries through to the new season for Patton as by all accounts he had a very good game last night.
Impressive performance and professional attitude , minimal mistakes , good discipline , all but one of our tries from slick three quarter moves .
Much more organised than Warrington , our half backs controlled the game .
Plenty of go forward with Murray , Lannon and Kirk
The only disappointing thing was the large amount of teenage Warrington supporters in relation to those that attend our home games - it needs working on by the Board
Having moved out of England 🏴 over 10 years ago I find myself describing widnes/England as it was years ago but obviously a lot has changed. When I was a kid growing up in Widnes there was a lot of RL clubs aswell as football clubs and kids played outdoors a lot more.
how many amateur RL clubs still exist in widnes?
how many kids actually play the sport these days compared to 30 years ago?
getting RL back in the local schools is imperative for the sport as a whole to ensure it has a future
