Yes crowd looks poor but Widnes fans not in that main stand - allocated to other teams not played yet ?
but our performance was fine, Gilmore eased back in and improved as the game went on, difficult to pick mom, Grady, edge, farnworth, Dixon all in there - probably harder to pick who was not in contention, even Lyons put in a good shift
hopefully start of a good run now and start to climb the table
@mckviking totally agree mate , all our tix and Bradford's and maybe fax should be in the stand facing the cameras although it doesn't change the fact that this event is an ill supported white elephant
It may be the last summer bash, because IMG have said they are not in favour of the magic weekend , though it seems most SL clubs are.
Good win, albeit against a dreadful side who just lost the plot.
Obvious thing to say, but we look so much better with Gilmore and Grady in the side.
Agreed with the comments about the crowd, really poor. Not as many Widnes as usual but still the majority of the overall crowd. Shocked by how few Swinton
I think with the right marketing team it’s great event for the sport if it’s marketed well and has a lot of activities going on around the stadium with bands and beer gardens could make a great spectacle and have cities putting in bids to hold the event. With 12 teams if they only bring an average of 1000 spectators each that would bring in a lot of tourists to the area
Sorry think it’s a dead duck, maybe the 2 play off semis together would work better, but that’s giving up home advantage
My report is on "The Lions" page.
Spelly.
Good boost to the points difference after the Featherstone game, Gilmore was excellent.
Don't need the Bash, although the two points from the extra game could prove to be a bonus in getting Top 6.
Just back from York. I thought our support was pretty good. It did not help showing our healthy numbers with us being scattered in the east stand with the majority behind the posts in the south stand.
Our stand out players were Gilmore, Grady, Lawton, Fozard & Jones the loanee from Leigh. Jones worked his socks off & was very impressive today. Gilmore's timing of the pass to a forward on the burst was excellent on a number of occasions. We have all been asking for Edge to take the goal kicks but today he missed the touch line ones whereas Gilly converted 2 very sweetly. If Gilly can keep clear of injury on today's showing he will improve us no end.
Apparently Walker, Eckersley & Hatton were still not risked because of their head injury assessment & Field failed a fitness test.
It will be interesting squad selection for the next game. Fingers crossed Gilmore stays fit because he will make a big difference.
Just watched the Halifax vs batley game and it was a great game, I think game selection let the spectacle down a little this year but it’s hard to know the form of teams I guess.
Can anyone who went give an insight into what was happening around the stadium with regards to extra attractions for fans waiting for their teams to play etc
@spelly how do we read that?
Sorry mate, not with you. How do we read what?
If it's my version on the proceedings you're after, it's on "The Lions" page in General Rugby League.
If you mean answering your question about what was happening, well................
As you know, your mob and mine were on first, so precious little was happening pre-game then, but as we were leaving, there were a goodly few fans knocking about in the fanzone, with eateries, bars, and a DJ, but...............
We didn't / couldn't stay, as it was the BBQ for my granddaughter's birthday, and we were back at my daughter's by about 4.30pm.
If it's anything else, I'm puzzled!
Spelly.
Fancy that. We look miles better with our summer signing scrum half playing. Of course we're no Fev, but let's see where we go now.
