Can honestly say never given the season ticket a second thought....

Everyone in RL will be in a similar, or worse, boat...

Let's just get through this crisis and hope we have a club at the end of it, before worrying about what plans will be put in place to deal with the season tickets.

It all depends what happens over the next couple of months and whether there are any relaxation of the current restrictions. If restrictions are lifted and games can be played say by the end of June/beginning of July, the season could be extended to November/December or , if necessary, even into 2021 and put back the start of the 2021 season. The 1895 cup has been abandoned and the play-offs could be abandoned too, with the bottom club in sl (or bottom 2) being relegated and the top team in the championship (or top 2 being promoted). At least finishing top of the league will actually have some real value.

The sl are desperate for the season to be completed, in view of the likelihood of the sky money being withdrawn if the season is abandoned, leaving many sl clubs in real financial trouble.

What are people’s thoughts on how we get our season tickets sorted for the months we miss? I know it helps our club but depending on when (if) we get going this season will we just have it roll over for the games we’ve missed perhaps as a means to keep people coming (and re-signing for next year)? I guess it depends on the delay and whether we get going again this season as they can just be used again. It’s next year that may get messy if this season is written off and people have shelled out for memberships? Could be tricky for the club relying on cash to keep operating.

Who cares ? nobody. Life and death come first over a poxy few quid. Just in case you are not aware,EVERY sporting club bar the Football big boys are in the same situation.

Alright MG keep yer ‘air on! Christ it’s boring enough waiting around so thought  I’d pose the question!!!

Any update from the club regarding this?

The last we heard was they were entering consolation with the staff and players.

It's a funny one. The clubs who own their own grounds are the one's at most risk.

I'm led to believe, from my Yorkshire source, that 3 or 4 Championship clubs are in the brown stuff, and at least 2 SL clubs. I think it all depends on the funding off the RFL, filtering down from SKY, and whether sponsors of the clubs survive.

I'm sure as we don't own DCBL Stadium, have 2000 ST holders, we will be one of the 'better off' Championship clubs.

I suppose we'll just have to see, when the club makes a statement in due course.

Paulie xx

Interesting to read that Kevin Sinfield, Tony Smith and Jamie Peacock are calling for SL to be played behind closed doors and all SL games televised by Sky, with all games being played over two days at the same ground. The idea is that Sky would televise two games as per their current contract and offer pay-per-view on all other games.

They claim that this is a plan to save rugby league. It looks to me as a plan to save SL, with no interest in saving the game below SL,unless they are proposing to guarantee funding to the Championship/League 1. I would also hope that the RFL realise that the game exists below SL level when approaching the Government for support to keep the game alive.

Maybe if the PPV idea is pursued, there may be an opportunity to offer PPV for Championship/League 1 games too.

Think the idea for PPV is you elect which club you support, the money which you have paid then goes to that club (after costs).

So if we paid to watch Leeds v Huddersfield on PPV and chose Widnes as our team, Widnes would get the money we paid to watch it.

I still think this proposal is more to do with saving SL rather than rugby league as a whole.

I could see Leeds and Huddersfield fans being interested in PPV for the game, but not sure that many neutral fans would be interested in PPV for SL games above those included in the Sky package.

Perhaps some arrangement could be made to show live games on Widnes tv on a ppv basis for those who have not signed up for the season.

Newspaper article the other day said Featherstone are the 4th highest spenders in the League, with a wage bill of £500,000, so we must be what 5th or 6th highest spenders?

Clubs in SL and at the top of our league I think will face bigger financial problems than us...

Think Featherstone will be impacted by the lack of dual reg too.

Cant see Leeds giving them too many players if we all have to play multiple games a week.

The clear advantage we have is the amount of players available to us. Only us, Bradford and London have an academy and reserves to pick from.

I know this trampling on old territory but what was the actual reason to why Backhouse didn’t buy the club.

The three conflicting accounts are that he wanted to change the name to Liverpool or that he wanted to buy the stadium but council wouldn’t sanction or another one was that Rule wouldn’t provide him with any financial figures and was very uncooperative?

The reasons were never made public as he had to sign an NDA apparently

But the name change , relocation and stadium were all put to bed by him

From his  cryptic tweets it seemed as if not only did SOC and co want a fee, they also wanted him to take over all the debts

LB pulled his interest before the crunchie really hit the fan and by the time the club was on its way out and needed rescuing had already moved on

There was also a lot of negative crunchie thrown his way by the SOC fan club who believed everything Rule told them

Apparently SOC and co were proper businessmen and LB just an attention seeking loudmouth who had never put a penny into the club

Apparently.........

I'm glad it didn't happen with Backhouse, with the players on part time deals the Furlough scheme really helps us. The SL teams with marquee signings will be in real trouble, 80% of £37,500 a year doesn't help much if you're on a £250,000 per year marquee player contract.

It's a terrible situation for everyone in society but the fact this year we are on a lower budget than normal, partially from the RFL putting us on a lower salary cap due to last years admin should help the club survive and come out of this. I can't wait for the first time the players run out of the tunnel and standing up to clap to chants of Widnes, Widnes. Whenever that time may be, I'm really looking forward to it!
