Matt Adamson again mentioned as a possibility (on Love RL) quick google shows he has coached reserve grade for Melbourne and been involved with their feeder clubs. Bit left field but some experience and presumably good contacts.

Not that it has any relevance, but I'm sure he very nearly signed for us when Phil Larder was coach, the year after we got to Wembley. I think we opted for Jon Grieve and Rodney Howe instead.

Unless we can prise Rowley, Henderson or Marshall away from their clubs (I reckon Marshall or Henderson would both be perfect for us) or take a gamble on SL players at the end of their career where COVID and injuries might have taken it's toll who want a part time role to supplement their coffee shop business (Brown anybody?), then I'm not sure there would be anything left in the UK for us to get onboard.

Fev did alright with their unknown coach from Oz a few years ago, but then they tend to come here just for a few years to try and make a name for themselves before they see what they can get in SL or back home.

Cahill anybody?

Whatever happens, I'm not sure we will shake trees next season as the new coach gets to grips with things and I reckon there will be those who won't be happy with whoever it is.

Interesting times ahead.

Matt Adamson was a rumoured signing around 2002, under Neil Kelly,as I recall.Cahill, not long returned home after 9 years or so in UK so I doubt he will be uprooting again.

We will probably be seen as a stepping stone club for anyone trying to make his way up the coaching ladder. Some may be happy to settle in the Championship at what sounds like pretty good money tbh.

Adamson and Cross have held coaching roles in the NRL but aren't on the brink of an NRL major coaching position. Their family situations will play a part too, kids education etc so a great deal to be considered.

We'll just have to sit tight I guess.

Personally, can't see it being someone coming over from Oz, coaching in the Championship is no stepping stone to an NRL job of any type. Plus, I think we're in the Championship for the foreseeable, there is going to be no quick success of sorts. There's too many unknowns about Championship rugby at the moment to uproot your family and move to the other side of the world for.

It's more likely to be someone already in the UK, probably already coaching in the Division or an Assistant in the SL that is a bit disgruntled or wants their own gig. I'd guess the Kilshaw, Henderson suggestions are about right, maybe Orr.

Just checking my crystal ball and I’m going for a coach in place by Monday 😃

I don’t who but I’m going for Matt Adamson as the front runner.

All fair points GPO. It comes down to what the individual, and his family, wants.

The salaries of 'assistants' in SL will easily match anything that we can offer and any move by Hendo etc would be simply to have his own show. But Hendo, for one has already tried that and most would have already considered the option. The assistant role in SL is well paid and with limited responsibility and would suit anyone who wants a relatively well paid quiet life! Head Coach in the Championship is less glamourous for probably no more money.

Adamson and Cross individually have already got UK photo albums, but their family situations may have changed and a trip to Europe could be a nice diversion. At a guess they would both probably be effective and bring some new ideas, as TS did.

As with any interview process the task will be judging how genuine the applicant is and making sure that he knows the clubs financial limitations before he arrives rather than after!

I wonder if Bobbie Goulding has applied again

Considering the vitriol Goulding has hurled towards Finney over the last 4/5 years over social media

I have a funny feeling that application would of been straight in the bin

Fair enough...

Suppose they are keeping true to their idea of keeping it broad: a relatively inexperienced coach with links to the club, a fairly experienced coach of a lower Championship/League One side, an Aussie from left-field.

Must be one or two others we don't know about surely.

<p style=”text-align: left;”>Whoever comes in will be a cheap option for obvious reasons.</p>

I hope we go for the best applicant and not the cheapest. Certainly, the job advert suggested the club would pay the appropriates salary commensurate to the experience of the successful candidate on a full time or part-time contract.

Maybe Simon Finnegan will be the ideal candidate - decent playing career, links to the club and reasonable coaching experience as Assistant Coach at TWP and Head Coach at Newcastle, where  no doubt he has been mentored well by Denis Betts!!!!

Could be an interesting week next week when presumably the new coach will be announced.
