We missed the Oldham game due to a family bereavement. So it was great to celebrate such a win. Good to hear singing and swearing! Even the sarcastic cheer when Lawton caught a pass!

hopefully get to Swinton next week.

What’s Sam Hopkins doing these days?

According to LE at Rochdale.

  • Add Hatton , Edge & Brooke’s to the above retentions.

Shane Grady?

I would certainly hope so! He is a grafter and that is what we need. Looking at the number of this year’s squad leaving or retiring I would be incline to retain those still available plus certainly 2 or even 3 experienced props if possible. Bennion is still scoring tries at Hornets and they are looking hard at their budget!

How could I forget him? Yes add on. I think that means if those resigned takes us to around 20 in the squad. I would like to see 30 signed up but think it is more likely to  be around 26 or so.

A lot of the posters on here are saying re-sign most of the squad but its hardly been a successful year, a more interesting discussion would be to see  who fans would we let go?  We know the squad was too small at the start of the season and not having out first choice hooker available hasn't helped but I think the singing of Fozard means that Tompkins wont be here next year with cover coming from Else and most likely Hulme if he re-signs. Any thoughts?

Imo, the problem wasn't necessarily the quality of the players but rather the depth, particularly in the forwards. I think the resignings so far are fully justified. We must now replace those retiring and also add depth. Will Tilleke for example, has played every game, in a beaten pack in many games, and is only 21. Thats not healthy at all.

Not wanting to sound even more pedantic but anything is better than our effort with no sound!!!! Even hearing the crowd or the referee shouting OK,OK!!! is better than the total silence that greets you on Widnes TV. I know its a Bulls commentator but he was very well read regarding our players.

What dated the commentator a bit was ' Naughton Park'!

What was a bit concerning was his hint that the next proposal from RFL would be some sort of TV deal for the Championship. If it involves switching game days all over the shop, with no cash benefit it isn't a help for us, or any team like us.

ST sales are critical and something that makes folk think that they may not get to games is no help to Widnes RLFC. What would be even worse would be the SL clubs gaining benefit from Championship games on TV!

Sorry SG but how many people call our place anything else other that Naughton  Park. And even though I agree with your other comments I do remember our Thursday night Championship games and most had larger than normal attendances, even we had eight thousand against Salford (didn’t ste Tyrer score a couple of tries that night).  Could be a showcase again as we get little publicity

I haven't heard people say Naughton Park in years (maybe from the older generation). I hear Halton Stadium but I've never heard DCBL unless its a reference on TV.

The commentator will be Mick Gledhill, the self titled 'gamecaller'.He's a bit full of himself and over bearing but fair enough he does know a bit and adds something to watching a game if you can put up with him.

No complaints with the commentary tbh, lively, well informed, and interesting.

As an older supporter myself Halton Stadium is good enough for me, the sponsor names are for the media to use!
