Potential signings for next season

John Kear did sign Levy, but he also let him go without much protest , when another club was willing to finance his recuperation.

In fairness to Levy, he has been associated with some very good clubs during his ( lack of  ) career. He may well turn out to be a decent player , but we are in no position to sign chronically injured players and I would want to see a string of decent performances from him before I went anywhere near New contract talks.

Greg Burke is out of contact at the end of the season, anyone think he’d step down to championship and is worth a 12 month contract

He didn't play particularly well for us last time he was here, hoping we can sign Doro I'd rather stick with what we have now.

Sunny Boy I think we have Farnworth, Doro, Amor, Johnson and possibly Lawton as a prop already. Unsure on Tilleke and I probably look at 1 more decent quality prop who is youngish for next year. Levy to go in my opinion. 🥖🥖🥖

Has anyone heard anymore on the Isa rumor? This in my opinion would be an outstanding acquisition to the squad

I know things change and players come in and out of favour at clubs, but isn't Willie Isa contracted until the end of 2023 ,      ( may already have been mentioned ).

When we had Burke he was very unfit, we played him and got him fitter and then binned him to Salford ?
same with Dodson - he was sick note, got him fit and off he went - Salford ?
so is lezy the same ?

Dudson played virtually every game for 3 seasons - then he got injured in the season we went down and made 10 appearances. Can't blame him for leaving to stay in Super League, and certainly wasn't a sick note.

Just hope that we are moving on retaining Farnworth. I realise that he is contracted for next season but that will be with a 'SL offer' clause allowing him to leave. Props are in short supply and his form will not be going unnoticed.

At some point we will have to become full timers again.

Not really sure going full time can be on the cards in anything like the short term. Would involve a complete restructure and a massively increased wage bill for players and off field staff. I’m not even sure it would help us to have a better squad. Look at Halifax, Batley, York and ourselves compared with Newcastle. I realise Leigh are miles ahead but that’s largely because their owner is paying very good money to sign a better class of player. If they were part time with that squad they would still win it.

Depends too on whether much £££ would come our way for being in the 2nd tier of 10 in any such restructure for us going back to FT.

If the rumoured calibre of signings are broadly true, plus the development of the nucleus of players here already, no reason why we can't be challenging Top 5 next year.

That Adam Lawton, he plays where he wants lol

DORO would do for me

We are not far off really but if we want to challege for the top 2 we could do with a talented 6 or 7

Dane Chisholm is at keighley

If/when Leigh go up they will have to let most of their overseas contingent go to comply with SL quota rules. Wonder if any of those players could be tempted to stay in the area and play for us on a part-time basis perhaps while pursuing another career outing the game?

@mt

That is a possibility, I agree. I have said before that in the old (pre-Pro) days supportive firms would provide jobs for players.

Don't know how it operates these days but it could work, as could a deal sending players on courses that could be advantageous to them later in their lives. It all depends on the individual, his aims and hopes etc. and what the club can negotiate with supportive firms/bodies.

Our last Aussie import was polishing up his CV ready to return to teaching!

We have shown that it is possible to get a PT team very fit however. On that point I would retain Beswick if possible. It's all part of the team.

There have been little hints that next year will be a different Vikings, but we'll have to wait and see I guess. Certainly JK stated that it persuaded him to sign!
