Plastic pitches

I thought Widnes were told they couldn’t stage any World Cup matches because of our artificial pitch. But isn’t todays Italian match being played on a artificial pitch?

is Newcastle’s a better artificial pitch than Widnes’s?

I thought the same, but Newcastles pitch doesn’t really look any better but what do I know 😂

They are really trying to push the market into Newcastle as they believe as a big city with time it will flourish

I wasn't aware on the "no plastic" rule for pitches in the comp, but stand to be corrected, and KP is defo not a grass surface.

6,000+ there today, and for Scotland v Italy, I would politely suggest that there'd have been fewer than that, had the clash been at NP.

@spelly I agree it was the right venue for these matches, but if they play on a artificial pitch there, they could do at Widnes . I think our ground is as good or better than Leigh’s and could have staged at least 1 match .

Not gonna argue about the facilities at your gaff / LSV, as both grounds are pretty similar. Perhaps that there's a standing option at the latter swayed the decision?

If we are looking to attract 'city dwellers' they are probably well acquainted with seats and sitting down!!!!

Kingston Park holds 10,200

There is absolutely no way on earth there was over 6,000 there yesterday.

I find it strange that Wales aren’t playing any games in our stadium, thought that JK would prefer to use his experience of his home club pitch as an advantage.

As we don't own the ground it's nothing to do with us and no way will the council try to get games played on it.

@mick-george

Why wouldn’t the council try and get games played here? Surely they would want the extra money they would get for staging a match here.

Why would they choose widnes as a venue? We are a mid table championship club with gates of around 3000

it makes no sense to host a World Cup match here. They’d go with wire saints or Wigan before us

They would look at the venue and all facilities, not the club using the ground. Our position in the league, and our average gate, has no bearing on whether or not the stadium is capable of hosting a game.

The DCBL stadium - or whatever it is called these days - is an all-seater capable of seating so I recall reading on here sometime ago 13000, the behind the scenes facilities are good - there is no reason why our stadium should not be at least considered.

I doubt very much that John Kear was consulted about venues.
