He would be the first person I would be giving a call to tomorrow morning, he may have his faults but at least he has a record of making his teams solid and hard to beat.

Agree we need someone else but can we afford to pay off the one we have? Can’t see him walking

He is on the coaching staff at Salford and tasked with setting up a Category 1 Academy.

Bobby Goulding....no chance

They won't sack Finnigan now, but if they did I would rather they gave it to Neil Kelly until the end of the season.

Is Neil Kelly too obsolete to the modern game now or will his rugby brain click in?

I don't think it matters about the modern game, Widnes of 2001 would give Widnes of 2021 a good thrashing. Wow 20 years, didn't think it was that long ago!

That's a big part of the issue if they were to sack Finnigan, who is there?

Presumably the same people who they thought Finnigan was better than before Christmas...

I keep hearing the same thing that it’s not finnigans team but In reality it is his team and he should be able to get the passion and team spirit in them to get the best out of them and obviously he isn’t .  The way we look now is like a amateur  team not a part time team I reckon after yesterday’s game a amateur team would of beat them lot. They don’t look like a team that wants to play for the badge or one another they also look unfit. He has been at the club now since November and he has had 6 games and in them games I can honestly say there hasn’t been one good performance. Somethings wrong either the players don’t want to play for him or summit in the coaching isn’t write. If we can’t get rid maybe look into putting a director of rugby in to advise him just a idea.

I am not sure that sacking Finnegan is the answer. I genuinely thought that this season we would be challenging for a play-off position, but the run of results have shown that the squad is simply not good enough to compete even at that level. We are in a relegation battle with Swinton, Oldham and Whitehaven. I am not sure that any manager could make any difference with the players we have and the lack of basic skills and fitness that has been shown to date.

It is time that the Board addressed the disastrous start to the season and told fans what they plan to do to try and improve the situation. It is now clear that going into the season with a small squad, bolstered by a number of young inexperienced players, was a mistake. Are any players available that we could sign on loan or otherwise to improve the squad? Could we bring in an experienced coach to work with Finnegan? Maybe beg Sheens to come back?

The game is in a perilous financial position with the cut in Sky funding and no doubt some clubs will go to the wall over the next few years. Widnes has been fortunate to have a decent fan base and fans being prepared to contribute to VIQI to provide additional funding to the club. If nothing is seen to be done to address the current crisis, will those fans still be on board next year?

It is totally unfair to attack the current Board members who were prepared to put their time and money into bringing the club out of Administration. They are not able to put in large sums of money and it doesn't look like any wealthy benefactor has stepped up to help the club, but what long term strategy do they have in place to attract additional finance? As has been suggested many times on here, maybe a club owned by fans through the sale of shares could be the answer, but would that be sustainable in the longer term.

Finnegan isn't going anywhere - he's on a 2 year deal and we can't afford to pay him off, simple as that.

Rowley is in charge of setting in Salford's academy, a full time job which is actually pretty exciting for their club so there is not a chance anyone like that will leave a secure job for a part time average Championship team.

Medium to long term - we're in real trouble.  If only we had the young lads to drop some of these players who don't know what a privilege it is to play for Widnes.

Come on Frank, blind loyalty will only get you so far. This squad is miles better than most in the championship. We were told by the coach that this squad was good enough to compete in this division, jeez, only last week in the Toulouse preview, Finnegan said there is nothing between ALL the teams in this division! For me some players think they’re too good to be in the championship, all I can say is not a single player has given 100% effort in all the games this year and that is inexcusable. I am of the belief that the players all thought they’d be coach by Sheens and they’ve simply downed tools. As for the board, as has been mentioned by others, maybe going to the wall and starting again with a blank canvas was the best option. Apparently there is money there for the ‘right’ player, whatever that criteria means!  What does irk me though, is who thought Finnegan was good enough? Who thought this shower of unfit, ill  disciplined, unprofessional clowns are fit to wear the shirt.......

Before SF came to Widnes how many first team games did he have under his belt as a head coach? Just the one season at Newcastle?

A no that you say that finningan is going nowhere but if we carry on like this surely they will have to look into getting rid. For me the other weeks interview summed him up when we got beat batley when he said he left the lads on the feild to punish them ye great tactic that leave them on who are obviously getting run over. It's obvious that if they can't get rid they need someone to come in to advise him
