Without knowing for certain that this is the list I’d go with smith as he has good ties in the modern game and both he and his brother played for us. Maybe they could 1&2 at the club

I can well recall the stick, abuse, and worse he received on here, when (I'm trying to be polite here) things weren't at their best at NP, so..........

John Duffy has (amongst others) coached us, and he could poss do a decent job at your gaff.
Matty Smith has decent history with you, and (in my opinion) could well be more inclined to make a re-appearance than would DB, but..........

I don't think there is a coach who could get much out of the current squad without also having a decent amount of money to spend on additional recruitment....if there is someone out there with the combined coaching skills of Vinty Karalius and Wayne Bennett and the ability to spot a star and persuade them to sign for Widnes like Doug Laughton could then I would give them a long contract.
