seems to be doing the old Ryan lannon trick… maybe it’s us who’s telling him what to do so we can sign him😂
In all seriousness tho real shame it works like this nowadays but we’d be foolish not to be going after him in our current situation and maybe having maizen here could help as they’ve played alot together
I haven’t seen enough of him to have an opinion on his playing ability but do we want to be signing players who have this kind of attitude? I understand rugby can be a short career and players want to play for the best club who want them but I don’t like this way of refusing to play for the club they are contracted to.
I hope we don't go after him. He is legally contracted to Hunslet who presumably haven't broken his contract in any way. He has shown himself to be a man who's word and signature cannot be trusted in the future, I hope Hunslet have immediately stopped paying him and providing any "perks" and he remains club-less - and pay-less - for a long time.
If he wants to leave them when his contract expires or now with their agreement then fine, but not like this.
Didn't one of our players do something like this to us in the dim and distant ?
In these cases it would be great if there was an understanding between all pro and semi pro clubs in the country that they wouldn’t sign players who walk out on a contract. Even better if the RFL ruled that a contracted player couldn’t move to another without the full approval of the player’s club - and that an uninjured contracted player actively refusing to play or train for his club in order to push for a move can have his wages frozen. Because as it stands situations like this (and Lannon’s) show us that contracts are worthless, the RFL is toothless and clubs are not protected from unscrupulous practice at all.

I do not want a player with this type of attitude a contract should mean something and fair play to Hunslet wanting a fee. Ryan Lannon did this to Widnes and we should have got a fee too and the only way to stop this behaviour. Hoping Patton is fit so he can play alongside Foz. Yeah we need a half back but not one with a terrible attitude. Fingers crossed can get Will Roberts for the season once fit again.
Suppose non of us know the in and outs of contracts to be honest. KIRK, Reilly, Ant Walker and Lannon have all departed Widnes mid season, so until the RFL get a grip of it i see it as dog eat dog and we need a decent half back now even if just for this season with an option for next year. Nobody knows what is happening with Lyons and Patton for next year too.
I fear that too many clubs would be two faced and hire him!
@sunny Good to see Hunslet standing their ground and are correct to do this, clubs make it far too easy for players to leave when they want good on them.
Is there any indication that Widnes are trying to sign this player? Personally. if he is a decent player and can improve our squad, especially in a crucial half back role, why not try to sign him.
We have lost players who have been offered better deals elsewhere and probably signed players from other Clubs on a similar basis. It is the way of the world. It is all well and good expressing high morals in this case, but the club would be stupid not to look at the player if indeed he can offer something on the field that we desperately need and we can afford him.
@frankg You had high morals over Lannon. Somebody needs to make a stand let's all hope Hunslet stick to their guns and get a fee for him and keep his registration if not.
I know he’s played with maizon at haven and as mentioned we don’t know what clauses he has in his current contract at hunslet. I’d be surprised if we wanted to keep Patton next season so I’d assume we are looking at lachy as an option

Good for Hunslet if they want to make a stand, but do they really want to hang on to a player who doesn't want to play for them. Maybe they will think twice themselves about approaching a player under contract with another Club, in the future!!
It is a short career that can be ended with one bad tackle, so who can blame a player looking to get the best deal for themselves and, if that means trying to force a move, so what. My guess is that this player (or more likely his agent) has been approached by another Club proposing a deal and it is too good to turn down. Good luck to him.
Caught between a situation of do we want a a player that acts like this Vs we need a good experienced championship halfback immediately to save whatever small playoff hopes we have.
Rumoured to at first been Sheffield, who were turned down by Hunslet before they got craven followed by Fev.
fev do however have Ben Reynolds and rocky Hampshire who seem to have found rhythm for them over the last 8 weeks so not sure they need hanneghan
