Two year contract.
Good news
Good news, if true.
He won’t get in ahead of Jack, but I’d like to see how he goes at full back.
Got a good running game and has pace.
I Disagree here, Lyons is very average in almost every possible way. has no real creative element to his game, rarely takes on the line and can be suspect in defence. Kicking game, Does he have one?
A half back should carry a threat with the ball, which in turn helps create space for his runners, Lyons does not have that threat.
As a backup utility back then fair enough. But as a starter I hope not.
I thought he was steady without being spectacular,The big disappointment out of the half back partnership was Danny Craven who was below par for most of the season.
Surprised he has got a two year contract. Thought that he may have been signed as a squad player, with perhaps Else being given the half back position. I hope we don't release Else.
Lyons is a bang average Championship player who offers little in attack or defence and also no kicking game, but I guess that is where we are at the moment.

Jeeeze it's a rugby forum and people have opinions 🙄
He's spot on what he says.
I was jesting, JJ. 😕
A bit surprised at the 2 year deal but I wanted him signed up. He can cover both half back positions & full back, has a lovely pass on him & his defence has improved. He has a bit of pace & backs up well. Behind a dominant pack he would be very useful & dangerous.

Correct my hope of signing a good half back are diminishing fast
I realise it’s not a poll, but my vote goes to Frankg who is absolutely correct, not geoffw who is wrong.
Joey Lyons is a good squad player but (IMHO) doesn’t deserve a 2-year deal.
I think he’s shown improvement this year but there is some work to do if he’s going to be a first choice halfback in a side looking towards the top end of the table. Good hands and moves the ball well but no long kicking game in evidence (though Craven and Smith have that covered at present) and for all he tackles well for his size he will be targeted at times.
Why do people get so worked up about the length of contract ? Genuine question - all it says is that the club see something on the lad worth having at the club. Of course people have there own opinions and that’s fair enough but it’s worth noting that even if the lad is “only” a squad player, we will actually need a squad for the next two years.
Sorry I was going to add that for all we know he might have signed up for £ 25 a week.
