As I stated on here months ago, Lyons will be 6 this year. I'm not sure if he is the answer but I know that if he or Gilly is injured our season is done. A fill in is for a couple of games at most, not for a chunk of games.

I would have kept Joe but would have him as the back up, we need a running 6 and if we got one it would bring in the casual walk up fan.

** My prediction is 9th this year. **

** I said at the end of last season when we finished tenth, that "Next term we want ninth or better." **

Spelly.

Joe mellor at Leigh will now be surplus to their requirements - worth a go on season long loan ?

Not sure about that, they were using him as interchange hooker last season as a foil for Ipape. Don't see any reason why it would be different this season. Moylan has come in to replace Reynolds.

@jdgsport

Looks tom have lost that pace that he had, more of a tactical manager now, which is how Leigh are using him.

Wouldn't like the idea of basing the core of our game on a player who could be withdrawn just when the going gets tough!

I thought that Leighs intensity increased every time Joe came on, he brings the forwards on very well. Agree he will continue at Leigh in that role.

Depends whether he wants to be a bit time player at a club I suspect will lose more than they win next season

or come back to somewhere he knows and be a regular in a winning team

If he did somehow come back to us, even though he would be "a regular" he would be on, what? 1/3 of his Leigh wage...

Lol. Last season, Leigh won 16 of 27 in Super League. Widnes won 13 of 27 in the Championship. There's not a great deal of evidence to suggest next season will be much different for either side.

It may be a foolish and vain hope but we might just have a consistent playing formation and the luxury of a motivated coach for a whole season!!!!!

We looked great at times last season, then totally hopeless and lacking in confidence the following week. That is not the way to climb up the league!!! There must have been things going on in what looked like a well integrated side last year, hopefully the big changes have eradicated that at least and we can start, not quite from scratch, with a focused group.

As a guide I rate Foz as a player and as a 'professional' and take his judgement to remain as my benchmark!

AC has a chance with a 'big' club, with excellent facilities, to encourage players to greater success than they have ever known - we have to give him and them the best support that we can muster.

A regular in a winning team ! That would mean Mellor signing for Featherstone or Wakefield, not Widnes.

Yes that was last season but they have signed Moslem and McNamara , half back and half back / hooker leaving Joe with a lot of competition, and if on a season loan would recieve the same wages with Widnes paying part of his wage

@sinbad I couldn’t see Mellor going to Fev, they said they’re cutting their wage bill by half this season. There might be a player there we could buy or get on loan, although if we’re getting a player on loan, it’s probably more likely it will be someone from Warrington.

Seems to be a few incoming sponsors. There is other big companies in Widnes like Stobarts, Croda and Alstom. Jaguar Land Rover not too far away and Emerald Kalama Chemical Ltd to try and get on board.
