The NRL seem to use this sort of publicity and it does get some interest at least.
The RFL could announce an 'original's' day where clubs there in 1895 wear the original club shirt. A day to welcome old 'stars' onto the pitch to be acknowledged etc
October 4th being outside the season hampers things a bit though it could still be good for a 'wear a Widnes shirt today!'
