Good point about JJ: I wonder whether the lack of creativity has influenced the coach into playing JJ at the start as an attempt to get more creativity into the side.

Another afternoon of getting trounced down the middles, I am afraid.  There were five in the Haven pack the size of, or bigger than LAWTON, who yet again was called on to operate as a prop as a result.  We have no chance against most of these sides with the restrictions in our pack, it is as simple as that...week in week out.  That has to be down to poor squad configuration, although we have lost AMOR, JOHNSON and FIELD already in this position, and have only WALKER and FARNZY as out and ut props.  For all his endeavour HATTON is simply not big enough (nor FIELD if the truth be known!).

I think the coach is trying to get more creativiy in the side for this reason, but trying to give the ball some air and get it out wide and try and play some football is creating its own problems, too!

As for yesterday, the sin binning of FOZARD after 30 minutes (score 6-0 to Widnes, at the time) was the change in momentum which was the beginning of the end in this game.  At half time I reflected that to have conceded the 6 points there, rather than be subject of a sin-binning for the last 10 minutes of the first half was a poor judgement call by the player, because I m sure that had we have had 13 on the field for those crucial 10 minutes rather than 12, we would have gone into the sheds closer than 6-18 and the game would have been more in the balalnce.  We had given them all the mometum by then and the game was lost.

But in summary, the pack is just not big enough, not skillful enough and has very limited creativity.  We can not build pressure and get repeat sets and are very poor defensively in the middles.  It needs sorting out, one way or the other.  More astute investment in quality players by those running the club.

For me the issue is playing JJ and Brown at 13.  There were long spells where Gilmore didn't touch the ball in attack in good position. It was all coming through Brown.  That shouldn't be the case at all. It's like we're playing two forwards short throughout the game. In contrast they had Dion Ayre who ran hard.

At the start of the season we had Bent and Field playing 13 and we were much better for it.

Also I think Lawton doesn't play to his size and only rarely runs hard. I think Walker's spell out with concussion didn't help him as he lacked fitness yesterday.  I actually thought Hatton played well yesterday. He runs the ball in harder than the majority of our forwards.  I think our tactics of having ball playing loose forwards makes it harder for our pack though.
