Are people bored?

9 wins on the bounce, best form for years, good, attack rugby and great defence. Yes, fixtures have been kind but we are obliterating anyone who is put in front of us.

Yet, barely any posts on yesterday’s games, just like other games recently. If we lost back to back games, this forum would full of posts and topics.

So is it a case of boredom or is it that only negative sells on this site?

I think it's a much wider issue, and that former (and current) supporters are generally bored with the game and the mis-management by the Authorities thereof.

The game has been mis-managed for a generation, and folk have given up and found other things to do.

And apart from a cost of living crisis, that is the reality of the situation.

People's lives, and modern day living have long since changed, and RL just doesn't register on their radar any more.

Sad, but true.

I think the above 2 posts pretty much, cross match, fans frustrations. It's all good and well beating the pants off teams, which are no better than Community Clubs, but as the old adage goes, "You can only play/beat what is in front of you." who's to blame for the gulf in class, The RFL, or the Clubs themselves? Okay, the RFL have made a massive error, by putting all Clubs in a 20 team division (21 with Fev), but Clubs recruitment sometimes leaves a lot to be desired, usually spending money they don't have on players that are not up to standard. The Gulf between FT London, and NWC who are no better than HFH Open Age, is absolutely ridiculous, and puts Player Welfare at high risk. But while it's great to see WV winning 9 on the bounce since defeat at Barrow, three of those were against Dewsbury. The next 2 games will be a more accurate indicator of where we are now. One thing I think the RFL could do better is on releasing the fixtures, were possible make them H A H A H A (obviously at some stage you will do 2 Homes/Aways), and make them cast in stone. If a club can't play their home game, then they should be obliged to find an alternative venue (as we had to v. Newcastle). It keeps revenue streams coming in on a regular basis, going a whole month without a home fixture is no use nor ornament, and then playing 4 at home just puts pressure on non-season ticket holders to find a heap of money, or just pick a game or two. But overall, the game is in a mess.

Paulie xx

I am buzzing seeing the great rugby Widnes are playing and this 20 team league and fixtures is a farce. Everyone knowing London are promoted already loses the excitement of a Grand Final and for me should always be promotion and relegation. Newcastle play the poor teams, so there league position is false because in my opionon it should be Championship then League 1. Plus it depends how many Super League loans a team get from other clubs and how long they keep the quality.

The next games against Oldham and Doncaster will see how good we are to be honest, but I am confident if  we play our best then wins will happen. I do think these teams will score against us because they are decent teams.

The RFL have been a basket case for years infected by leaders with self interest (on behalf of clubs they support!). Perhaps the RFL need a new prime minister!!! Ha ha.

No, I love watching Widnes win easily! Its been years and years since we were on a run like this. In any event, looking at the upcoming fixture list, games are about to start becoming a lot more closer/interesting. We wont be nilling Oldham.

I think one of the reasons less people post on here is because there are now for  ways for people to have their say, with sites on Facebook and X etc, not just the message board, but also , for some reason, fans don’t post as often, when things are going well, and post more when things aren’t going well, so they can complain .

Im not sure if that’s just a Widnes thing, or just human nature and happens at most clubs.

The RFL have certainly messed things up, with 1 division outside SL, and not all teams playing each other. Nigel and his mates only care about SL , especially as Bradford are now in it, despite their ground being terrible and the pitch not being big enough lines 5 metes apart instead of 10 and very shot in goal areas.

I emailed the RL with a question 10 days ago, and apart from a email saying they’d received it, I’ve heard nothing. Which isn’t a very good way of attracting/keeping fans.

I also agree about the number of loan players a club can have should be changed as well, it’s ridiculous at the moment, when the likes of Newcastle can be lent 8 players for a match by York, for a tough match, then they go back the following week.

I just think its typical, we've slowly built ourselves back up to be competitive and sustainable, however there's not much of a prize at the end.   I'm trying (and failing) to remember much about the NFP season before we got to SL the first time, that was a big division - I'm sure we used to deal out a few pastings then also

If it is a big division next year we should play each team at least once, looking at the table is a travesty we don't play Newcastle in the league - would be a big game

I agree with the adage of you play what’s in front of you and that the standard of some of these teams are very poor (notwithstanding hunslet we’re playing ok before we played them and have some decent old players)

however for me the professionalism and commitment of the lads to keep them at 0 when hunslet did push a few times and had some good ball deserves more credit than it’s been given.

there would be plenty moaning if we only won 30-18 I think.

Unfortunately disaster, doom mongering  and criticism do sell more than success on here as well

A lot of posters on this forum drop off when things are going well. They'll be back in numbers if/when we go on a losing run.

Widnes can only play what is in front of them and they do seem to be on a good run, playing some decent rugby. I cannot get to matches as often as I once did, but winning well and throwing the ball about should never be boring.

It is correct that social media generally is negative and promotes unfair criticism, often with no foundation. Having said that, there is nothing wrong with criticism and grown-up debate.

My view is that supporters have fallen out with the game in view of the way the game has been run for many years. The Championship this year is a joke to be honest, with the RFL  cobbling two leagues together at the last minute with little thought to the fixture list; running a cup competition, apparently with no prize money or the incentive of it counting towards promotion to SL; no chance of promotion to SL this season or as it increasingly seems likely not in the foreseeable future; and a proposal that downgrades the Championship to be made up of feeder teams to SL Clubs.

Up the Chemics.

That is true and a testament to things on and off the field at the moment, barring one over exuberant business man who wants to be involved it seems 😉

Sorry spider - got timed out on my response

you are correct but as I recall the NFP did not have one sided games like we have now - every team wanted to go up

since the stupid amalgamation of the leagues below SL and the even more stupid fixture format, what we have really is what was expected.

also with the RFL allowing the PNG reserves to have a player budget of up to infinity it is not and never will be a level playing field

we can only hope next season in whatever guise it is , we at least play each other  team in the league once

thoughts ?
