@vikingfox71 That would be a bad decision for the Club and the game. How many games would be cancelled every week if it relied on making a profit!!!

IMG points are worthless this year, as London have all but been guaranteed promotion. It is also likely that there will be no promotion/relegation between SL and the Championship for at least a few years.

@frankg its essential for Championship clubs survival that games make a profit. With no TV deal and little in the way of central funding. If no promotion/relegation and the IMG figures tweaked this year to make sure London get in, whats the point of the 1895 Cup. Its got no history, we don't know where the final is and the fixture format was an after thought by the RFL hence why the stadium is already booked up. Lets put the club first for a change to tell the RFL to shove it.

This fiasco is just another example of mismanagement of the game. Does the RFL have any interest in this competition or the Championship?

The whole purpose of the 1895 Cup competition, as I recollect, was to give teams outside SL and supporters a chance of a day out at Wembley, as well as any prize money on offer. The RFL ruined this by playing the game after the final in an almost empty Stadium. It would make more sense to play the final at one of the finalists' grounds. I am not sure how you would determine which ground!!!!

The RFL needs to review the future of this competition and you never know, they may announce a decision about this time next year!!!

@dan1 totally agree, don't see the point of it anymore. I would imagine the club feel the same way but wouldn't want to withdraw for fear of backlash from some fans. Not me, it's pointless.

@dan1 Agree with your sentiments, but having agreed to take part in the competition, we should continue.

Your argument for not competing in this competition could equally apply to competing in the Championship ie no TV deal and little in the way of central funding, the IMG grading fixed to ensure London promoted this year and possibly no promotion/relegation in the foreseeable future.

Said it many times, but to play the final at Wembley, after the "main" game was a disaster!

We all want to see our team beneath the famous arch, but.....

What's the solution?

1) Play it before (say) Robins v Pies? That's currently scheduled for the ladies' final. So to either sandwich it in between, or play it first, the opening game would need to be kicking off at 11.00am ish, so it's a no-no. there I'd have thought.

2) Play one of 'em as a curtain-raiser to OT? With it being a Super League day, would this be "allowed" by the powers-that-be? I admit, I don't know the answer to that!

3) It's due to be staged (rumoured at Wakey. WTF?) on Bank Holiday Monday, so would that be the prefect excuse to give RL a "towering" return to Blackpool?

I'd go for the third option myself, but how say you Chemics?

Spelly.

PS - If the Thunder game is played "somewhere new" I may well pop along, to add another venue to my CV!

Yes you are all correct here - a total farce, orchestrated by the rfl with late rules for the 1895 cup, and of yet no final venue confirmed ( are they waiting to see who qualifies, because if London are one and maybe hurricanes they will be looking for a phone box somewhere in between - Milton Keynes)

we need to carry on and play but very disappointed that we will lose our home advantage by playing at northwich

onwards and upwards

Surely with future planning the final should be at magic weekend as there's a odd number of games it would make it feel more of a event ala old premiership finals at old Trafford

@7-vikingnomad is it at Northwich then? Thats miles away. Prescot would of been better or if not Cantilever Park or Rylands in Warrington.
