Two Championship Clubs Already Struggling?

The season has not started yet but Whitehaven have paid players late mentioning reduced central funding. Batley have reduced admission to £10 for adults & £5 for concessions. The latter can only lead to disaster for them financially.

Our club has said they have covered costs for the coming season but with the former VIQI membership reducing by 90% to date although I would hope that will improve a bit the future looks bleak for Championship & League One clubs in the current financial climate. I just hope we pull through it ok.

That's a bold assertion to make unless you are privy to more details of what Batley are doing than have been released. They have clearly stated that they have secured sponsors to offset a chunk of the cost of this initiative, and it sounds from their announcement that the worst-case scenario is a £30k loss, with the possibility it could actually work out quite well for them if it attracts better crowds and spending (remember, Batley own their ground so keep all the profits).

Moreover, Batley have probably been the best-run club in the division in terms of fiscal responsibilty for a good number of years now, they famously keep well within their budget, so they are probably worthy of a bit more trust than most clubs rather than predicting certain financial disaster.

There will be many struggling to make ends meet this year and, though it maybe sacrilegious, I suspect that it could affect VIP support.

There seem to be many clubs allowing ongoing monthly payment but if the cost of living gets any worse this option could suffer.

Interesting to see what London have done, you pay a fee and then get reduced entry every time you attend. Instead of a season ticket - that may appeal to people who only watch half the games and would not bother with a season ticket

I saw something on the TV the other day and the cub in question allowed the value of any unused tickets left over from your season ticket to be used in the club shop. Makes sense to me.

Though I am sure they will be ok, ìt is reported that Toulouse have financial problems , a lot of it to do with the lack of RFL funding after relegation .

Yes I read on loverugbyleague they have less than 20 players signed up to date! If that is so & stays like that they may struggle to get into top 4.
