Problem is that signings alone won't solve the perception problem...no offence to Fleming or Holroyd or Brown but not many people will have heard of them, people who follow the club week in and out will have to google some names we have been linked with, let alone the casual or lapsed fan!

The start to the season is crucial. I think people will turn up to the opening home game to see what happens and on the back of some decent marketing; but matters will quickly slide if we look like there is little improvement.

Surely they have got to be worried that people will not by Season Tickets and will go on a match by match basis to see what happens!

I must stop picking Widnes to win in the prediction league. I predicted a loss against Halifax. Not sure now about the Oldham game next week. Maybe go for a draw!!! See a few of the sack Finnegan crew are back this week. Funnily enough, they weren’t around last week. Must have been on holiday. Can’t really comment on today’s game. Just another to add to the embarrassing results this season. We have no right to beat a team like Whitehaven who have won 9 games this season and are 7th in the league, but surely not a 60 point hammering. Just need to get this season over with and hope the club can turn things around, with some better signings and a more balanced squad for 2022.

See the defenders of the faith are again missing, not even going to comment on the game I take no pride though in been proved right time after time.

Did you get up to Whitehaven for the match then Mick ?

I agree with you.

The board of directors did what was immediately necessary and with the support of fans saved the club

Getting more than that is a bit of a pipe dream however

No never even thought about it was in the Horse and jockey eating tapas and listening to a Bavarian brass band with a few other ex die hards, who like myself have given up.

Was Jewitt playing?

God only knows as nobody else could identify him.

I really don’t think the issue is investment. Yes, if we want to compete with Feth and Toulouse but ultimately we are in such a low point, does investment stop you from losing to Whitehaven in such a disgrace manor.

They have a budget of 150k, what’s batleys budget or Dewsburys. The championship is all about character and you can’t buy character.

Let's focus on the positive: there are only 3 matches left then we will be unbeaten for all of October, November and December!

On a serious note, it has been what, 4 bad full seasons in a row?

Maybe we shouldn't be surprised and instead expect it by now sadly.

I mean, I don't think we have really consistently got to grips with good level Championship Rugby since McCormack's teams to be honest.

We need to assess the available options of who is willing to come to coach Widnes. Then, it is a case of whether there are viable candidates who are more experienced than Finnigan, with a better track record. In November/December, presumably there was not a better candidate, taking the Board/CEO on face value. 10 months later, things may be different. I suppose there is the trade off of how much it would cost to pay off the remaining year of his contract versus crowds that implode below the 1800 mark on a regular basis. One thing is for certain, the casual fan picking up that result on their phone won’t be rushing to the turnstiles next week!

They where shocked last time round at the dire quality of applicants. PF admitted that to a degree in James’s podcast at the start of the season. I hardly think there will be a queue of people desperate to work under PF when it’s widely known how he went behind Sheen’s back. I keep harping back to that point but it is the moment that threw the season out before it even began. Poor recruitment and a woefully lopsided squad to start the year with. Blame Sheen’s or PF but I can’t help the feeling that Simon has just gone from one firefighting week to the next. Large parts of the squad need binning not retaining. We can’t afford to go through another pre-season of change though so Simon has to stay for me.

Widely known you say - enlighten us then.

We have not really heard a word from Phil finney have we. Is he actually the man in charge as I’m not entirely sure. Some people speak highly of Mr finney and some do not. It’s about a 50/50 split. What I would say is that it must be very difficult to run a professional sports club at this time. I’d personally rather see Jason operating as CEO, although I don’t know what his day job is. (At least for an interim period)

He literally fronted up at a members evening about a fortnight ago. Funnily enough, a lot of the vocal crew on social media didn't turn up to ask the questions they are so desperate to get the answers to.

I don’t think there’s many household names that a lot of Widnes fans would have heard of in the championship, so unless we buy some ex SL players who are crocked, like we have done this season, which obviously hasn’t worked, I think we will have to settle for championship players, and hope we sign good ones, wether or not fans have heard of them,  because we can’t afford to buy any good SL players, even if they wanted to come.

I agree with signing good quality Championship players, it is definitely the right move, but I am just saying that if you are going to entice people back, signing 7 or 8 players that people don't know won't in itself do that, marketing and a good start to the season are key.

Many of us work shifts or even spend time away from home because of the impact of covid on our industry or business.

I myself don't really have anything negative to say about our current situation. Es e

The board of directors are in place, but they certainly do not have enough money to drive and spectaculsr change to where we currently are
