Training Tops

I think the new Liverpool and Everton training tops are a bad idea, why promote 2 top Premiership football clubs? I can’t see any football fans buying them and most Widnes fans will want to buy items with the Widnes colours on them .

It’s just an other way and method of getting extra revenue. Not a great idea in my eyes but all my children support Everton as well as Widnes so I may buy a top for my grandson.
I buy- they make money~ simples👍

Personally speaking, think they may get more ££ by changing the kick off time to earlier or Saturday so more walk ups come to the Batley game: rather than sit at home/pub watching the Derby Match.

Suppose it is at least an attempt to do something to make some revenue.

The red and blue tops are a ridiculous idea, IMO.

Think your right CJ. I remember Steve O’Connor saying over 400 season ticket holders stayed away for one Derby day and we were in SL then, can you imagine numbers against Batley!!!

Surely one of the benefits of having an artificial pitch is for something like this to be turned in to an 'event' - so watch Widnes v Batley, then watch the Merseyside derby on the big screen.

Unfortunately, it seems the council sees the stadium more of a burden than it does a business opportunity.

Totally agree, could have a 2.00 kick off, then a BBQ/Bar on the pitch weather permitting!

Was that not part of the original idea behind the IPitch way back when?

Most the fans usually leave with 5 to 10 mins left to play, be nobody left to watch anything. are the club really interested in making extras income ?. They make it really difficult for on the day walk ups with no cash turnstiles, seen many a fan in the bowler swerving the game cos they cannot be arsed to queue up twice.

@jdgsport this is why the council needs to be approached by the club and enquire about allowing the club to use facilities to generate some more income. Without WVRLFC the stadium is a waste of time. I’ve said on other threads the club seems to be stuck in neutral/stalled and can’t really progress under current leadership. Nobody seems to have the knowledge to actually put in place a strategy to get to the next step, it’s like we’re limping along aimlessly or so they would have us believe.

I understand we nearly went into administration a couple of years ago but we the supporters saved them. The club has the impression that just existing is enough. My fear is we become complacent with being a mid table championship feeder club for fuckin Salford 🤦‍♂️

i personally think the current CEO is happy being a mid table champ club CEO. That’s not a jab at him, I’m not a CEO and am happy working for the company in my current job but I want the CEO of widnes to want more!!!!

I don’t think the council have any objection to this at all, though I suspect what you really mean is that the council should let the club use the stadium for free? Problem is that nothing is ‘free’ and for the stadium to be made available for free to the club for things that would mean at a loss to the council, so they simply couldn’t do it!

Anyway back to topic…

I’m appalled! Fuming! Near apoplectic, that our great rugby club has decided that the way to market themselves is by making shirts to represent Liverpool and Everton football clubs rather than promoting themselves! This is genuinely one of the darkest days I can remember as it would appear the club are out of ideas and have given up promoting rugby league!

My God, where do I start with this one? 24th April - we play Batley at home. Has anyone seen any marketing? Yet up the road Liverpool play Everton and we are marketing that weeks in advance, encouraging interest in a game where the only way to watch it live will be to miss some or all of our own home game! Feckless!

Next let’s have a look at how I feel as a United fan now that my rugby club has ‘come out’ as favouring Liverpool and Everton - I know I’m not alone and fans of other clubs aren’t impressed at Widnes showing affiliation to the enemy. Just encourages me to wear my United shirt to games as a big F-You, but either way doesn’t endear me to my club or make me want to buy another Widnes shirt. Are they really so stupid they didn’t think this would disillusion supporters?

For the players, this whole tomfoolery goes against the very psychology of building a team and encouraging them to play as one in a single direction towards a single goal. Widnes players should only ever be seen in Widnes colours. To be splitting them up as defined by which football team they support encourages division and sub-groups within a team. We should be encouraging the win together - lose together mentality, not blue wins - red loses or whatever! Some might not get this, but team psychology is a big deal (and big business!) and I’ve been involved in leadership training as given to top flight sports clubs and large businesses and can absolutely say that this is not the way! And it’s not even just a football thing, the effect would be the same as saying which players voted Tory or Labour - it just creates division!

Finally, the fans. Now it’s normal for fans to have their favourites, but this takes it a stage further in identifying which players the fans want to be associated with, and which they don’t! Those players pull on a Widnes shirt and get our support, but does the club think that the player pulling on a blue shirt will now get the same support from a red supporter or vice versa?

I just hope that they win against Batley, as if they don’t I’m sure I’m not the only one who will be telling to them to get off the pitch and go and watch the footy!

@steve

I can remember us sharing a Benefit event for a Liverpool player at Naughton Park. Great fun and we won!!! IIRC Mick Adams, on the last lap of a relay, waited for them to catch up!!!
