Can't fault the effort and definitely a lot better than previous games against better teams so fair play.
But composure let us down IMO.
Well played - we did enough to win this game, but mistakes cost us.
Can’t knock the effort, bit more composure in a couple of situations and we could have won it. Some big league games coming up, need to crack on and earn a playoff spot.
We won the second half, a rarity in defeat.Plenty of positives after a poor start.
So happy to be wrong today! I expected a hiding, but we were at their level and in the end I was on my feet in the final minute it was so close! Unusual to be on my feet in front of the tv! Pleased for the coach and players as there’s no shame in that performance!
A lot of rugby fans will be surprised by shorelines in these semi’s as Swindon had a good dig too!
I’m ten years older after that 80min, could’ve, should’ve etc but going in massive underdogs and coming out feeling we could have won is a big step in the right direction against a team undefeated in the league. Well done lads.
Proud of that.
Better team for 60 minutes lost
Why are we blaming Thaler? No way. Grady & Cook are the 2 Villains. Oh so close and I for one am heartened by the display.
good effort improvement continues, well done fev
If we have come out of this game free of injuries, our next three league game s- home to London and Sheffield and away to Bradford - are winnable on this form.
What a change from the wondering where our next win would come from after some of our earlier performances. Well done to the coach and the players for turning things around. Just hope they can maintain this form and effort.
gutted in the end there. Some brain farts cost us in the end and a poor 10 kins
proud they didn’t give in at 0-16 like some may have can’t let this dishearten us for the next few games
Much better against a good side for the first time this season. Some one said they had a weakened side so exactly who was missing? Grady & Cook just had to pass to the nearest man and we had an overlap both times. I thought the referee gave us nothing all game & did not want to penalise Featherstone when he should have done. That tackle on Farnworth should have gone on report. Great effort & grit after an awful start. My only fear is will we have enough energy left for the London game after all that effort today in testing conditions? Thought Smith was immense defensively but not offering a lot in attack. We are definitely improving just need to pick the right pass & show more composure. They play at 80 miles an hour when just need to slow it down at times. Looking forward to the next game greatly.
Good effort that. Fev beat teams 50/60 every week and but for a couple of silly decisions from forwards we’d have beaten them. Progress is being made and we should now look forward to competing with these top sides each week and looking to finish in the play offs.
dane chisolm, dale ferguson and a couple more fwds i think
The best team lost, in my view. With a little more composure in the last 10 minutes we would have pulled off an extraordinary victory, which as usual, was made most unlikely by what can only be described as a one-sided refereeing display. We were on the back foot for the whole of the first quarter, had a try disallowed for a fwd pass whilst two of their first 4 were awarded for exactly the same thing, and other than 2 obvious penalties in the full 80 minutes, were awarded absolutely nothing in terms of 50/50 decisions by an official who is a Yorkshireman and who resides precisely 3.7 miles away from Featherstone in Normanton!!! Gone seem to be the days when Lancashire referees went over into Yorkshire with a Lancashire team and vice versa. Widnes are despised by the RFL, and it shows every time I watch us play in Yorkshire....even our great sides in the 70's and 80's got nothing off the officials, which makes our success over these periods all the more incredible. As you will see from Mr THALER's Twitter account, he had admiration from a former referee, Mr WH THOMPSON - and we all know what he did to the Widnes sides of the 70's and 80's on the pitch......exactly the same thing as THALER did today!!!!!!
We should however, be proud of that display, because the wider picture is that this team has gone to the second best team in this league and should have won despite all of the foregoing! Grady and Cook's fluffed chances at the end could have forced an incredible win against all the odds - and I for one am very proud of but bitterly disappointed for the lads. With a fair crack of the whip we would have won by at least 12 there today.
