I'd also add every single Widnes fan knows over the season our pack was not up to the battle ...often accused of switching off ..lacking effort ..lacking size ..n tbf the clubs addressing it ...saw one comment on FB that new signings lack size ... fkinell Kirk is 6,4 n near 18st now ...Reilly 5'10 16st ..brooks 6'2 17st ..lyodd is a back rower 6'3 just short of 16st ...them boys are hardly midgets ...I'm all for it tbh ... guess we all need 43st props that can do 100m in 3 seconds lol
Based on the heights and weights you've provided there isn't much between the newly signed forwards and the forwards who started last season. Kirk (6'4" ~ 18st) vs Lawton (6'7" ~ 20st wikipedia), Reilly (5'10" ~ 16st) vs Hatton (5'10" ~ 16st), Brooks (6'2" ~ 17st) vs Amor (6'2" ~ 16 1/2st wikipedia), Lloyd (6'3" ~ 16st) vs Grady (6'4" ~ 16st wiki). So far last years forwards edge it on size so far. I guess it depends who is yet to sign vs Davies and Brown as to whether the pack will be larger than last year.
In my opinion though it isnt' just about size. There's loads of big forwards that play amateur and the reason they can't make the step to pro is because it's about footwork, pace, fitness, defence and hands too.
Based on games where we have faced the new players I would say last years pack are better than this years based on the signings made so far. But, I haven't seen much of the new players to be honest so it's difficult to tell.
You have to take into account the coaching mis-mash that we had last year - with Kear trotting out his usual system that got him sacked at Bradford! There were a number of games where we were all at sea which smacked of unrest, despite what was said.
I certainly don't know what went on, if anything, but there was no shortage of those wanting out!
We now have another new broom bringing in players that may not be rated higher than last seasons but they are rated by our Coach and might just be what we need - who knows?
I sometimes see wiki as bullshit with statistics on size and weight. Hatton I have seen in person and no way he is that big. 🙈
The post was more of putting a different look on things ..some are saying there worse players when there actually not ..n let's not forget our previous superstars didn't get us even in the play offs in four seasons...also some saying the signings were small..just merely pointing out their actually pretty big units ...n besides alot of the time it's about the heart n willing n some leaving severely lack it...just a different point of looking at it
Personally Lawton, Farnworth, Hatton and Craven are far over rated in my opinion . Lawton drops the ball a lot and pretty clumsy player who can't crouch down to tackle. Devastating near the line but has tenancy to become lazy especially with a 2 years contract. Craven like biscuit and that show and go is so predictable now. We have a budget to pick a team and these superstars are not getting snapped up in Superleague? Well because they are not wanted for starters. Love these moaners to buy top class players with their money or join the board buying shares? 😂🙈
@ratboy completely agree...it's actually amazing the fuss that's been kicked up over them going ..with been shocking at times and those going have played a massive part in that..the only one I had a bit of disappointment over was farnworth purely because of his age
