As our yearly crisis is around again!!😂
is it Coleman stay or Coleman go?
and if go , thoughts on replacement
If he goes I'd ask stankevich part time or I could see jack Owens being a cheaper option for short term
Although I am as frustrated as any other fan I think we should not over react. The number of quality coaches st this level is not huge & we have had a few over the last 6 years or so. Presumably the directors will be having discussions with him about the situation. I am also sure Coleman himself is aware of supporter frustration & hopefully will address things in the coming weeks. He will know he is in the results business & that things need to improve fast.
So my verdict would be perhaps look around for who is available but put off decisive action for now. We would also have to pay him off for the rest of his contract period which we presumably have not budgeted for.
@geoffw great reply Geoff and I agree with all those things it's just that I think Coleman is so stubborn he won't change and he comes across as someone who loves to be loved I can't see him running across to the north stand with many more defeats
Next few games are key: Dewsbury away twice, Halifax home, Sheffield home, Salford away. I don't think it would be unreasonable to expect us to win all of those matches. Yes Midlands and Newcastle have easier fixtures but I have limited sympathy with that argument as we are playing teams we would have played in the 3 divisional structure anyway!
Don't know what happened with the players not being allowed to clap the fans, all seems a bit weird and unnecessary. Was a feel-good factor in the opening weeks which has gone.
As far as the coaching position is concerned, I wouldn't expect any change unless we have an absolutely shocker and look like we could miss Top 10- AC has a couple of years at least on his contract.
Personally, I would wait until the end of the season and make a judgement then- he will have had 3 full seasons which seems to me a good time to assess.
Correct - no coach out there waiting to come in
finances tight at best
available players at reasonable cost - nil
stick for now
Coleman out for me, doesn’t seem to learn from his previous mistakes and seems to have abit of cronyism towards certain players in the squad no matter of the performances they turn out.
With the way the league is and the club atm I can’t see us getting rid of him tho and we will just have to expect another mediocre season.
However if AC stops with all the excuses and seemingly poor squad selection we could see some improvement however like mentioned he’s seems to stubborn and rather die on that hill mentality then being willing enough to change and that’s obviously going to be his downfall.
Also doesn’t help upsetting the fans like he did yesterday I certainly think he’s got to win the next 5 games to save himself.
@geoffw I agree, no point in panicking yet. I don’t agree with what Coleman done in the last 2 games, but hopefully the Chairman will be sitting down and having a discussion with him, about what’s going on.
We’ve got 6 matches coming up where we could win all of them or at least win least 5 of them .
If we don’t then I think it’s time to think about a change of coach, but if there’s no one that’s any good available, there wouldn’t be much point, in getting rid of Coleman and having to pay him off.
so if we sack him we have to pay money we have not got, so the situation gets worse, hold for now and if things get worse hope he dies on his sword and he goes back to swinton, taking bent and gregson with him
potentially yeah but maybe we could offer him to another club for next year then he will leave a week later for free like are players normally do.
@7-vikingnomad lol nomad you've had too many Easter eggs that would be a great scenario 👍
If as people say he has x years to run on a contract looks like there will not be a change of personnel.
AC may have the badges to have enabled him to get the Swinton and then Widnes jobs in terms of RL coaching but I suspect no general sports coaching qualifications, if he did he would have advanced his own skills. This has not occurred. He seems to have set a pattern of play got a bunch of players who play that pattern and is going to stick to it The result......Widnes are in the same place they were two years ago same deadwood spine of players who are also so set in their ways....result....mid table.
Both him and the players are on easy money......
Where are the willing to learn youngsters?....... let move on without even being given the chance to show what they might be capable of .
.
Everyone on this league knows what to expect from Widnes...who plays, the style of play and as as been pointed out all you have to do is sit tight in defence and wait for the Widnes errors to occur ....which they always do.
Watching Widnes has become boring tbh.
AC does not seem to have the will or the ability or both to advance young players either on the books at Widnes or to bring in on loan.......would you want as a SL coach to put a talented youngster in his hands?
Maybe the reaction to the Abdul situation and the bringing the team off the other day will make him think about his approach.
Let's hope so....or there will be no improvement on the field and only crowd decrease, stagnation followed by decline.
The permanent staff who work hard to advance the standing of the club and bring in sponsors etc must be seething after this month's events.
From our beloved leader;
I would like to apologise to the fans for us not coming over after the game on Friday.
Looking back I got it wrong, and I am sorry for that, after your efforts to travel and support the players, the club and myself.
I was desperate to speak to the players and take them out of the situation at the end of the game.
It’s been a tough couple of weeks, on and off the field for us all, and I take responsibility for that.
We try to look after everyone’s wellbeing, on and off the field, and there’s always a fine line with that.
I feel I have shown over the last couple of seasons how important my relationship with the fans and the community of the town is to me. It’s what drives me most days, knowing how important the club is to you all.
Once again, to the most important people in our sport, you the fans, I apologise.
@martin what"situation " where the players in at the end of the game ?? That's the big question
I think he's taken things as far as he can.
Unfortunately I don't think there is anyone available who could do any better.
