The clubs left with filling that hole ...plus on his original plan to invest it was on the provision the other board members did aswel . Only 2 or 3 agreed a d weren't willing to be bought out ....needs adding aswel it wouldn't make a jot of difference to the playing side ...we'd still have to operate under the same constraints unless a bond was placed with the RFL...I wouldn't trust them with a pencil let alone anything else....looking from the outside it's pretty clear horabin and the majority of the board clearly don't get on ...do you risk a harmonic board for a large risk it becomes fractured with him involved ..we'd all love large investment to push the club forward but that doesn't happen without a SL rainbow ...reality is we are probably the best run club in the league ...and not supplemented by a sugar daddy ....we could be far far worse off

we've scoured the world for investment (apparently) yet turn it down from a fan because he's a bit loud !! lol sorry I normally agree with you but I think this is bonkers there are many places you could spend the money without it been on the squad
@vikingfox71 don't get me wrong I don't agree with it but like I say there's clearly friction there between the two parties that obviously the board either rightly or pig readily have turned down...one things for sure the one set of people that need the clarity will be the last to find out the full story...that being the fanbase
I've got no clue who this fella is. The only information I have about the board members is what I have seen on social media and other releases from the club.
But like CV says the club is running fine at the moment and we will hopefully be watching a successful Widnes for a long time yet with a crop of youngsters coming through at some point in the future. I've not given up on the dream of seeing Widnes play in superleague again but we have learnt how fragile and delicately balanced teams are at this level. The temptation must be immense because it is a results game at the end of the day and these guys want to please the fans. All it takes is delaying a VAT bill for a quarter to pay a new player or agents bill, or postponing a pension payment for a month or two and all of a sudden you are in a spiral. Especially when you have weeks at a time without any income due to gross mismanagement by the RFL. That is why we need to remain sustainable.
This £50k is not being gifted without serious conditions, he made that clear. And this might not be deliberate but what he is doing is causing an unnecessary division in the club at a time when we should all be pulling in one direction and getting behind the club.
This board shouldn't get a pass just because of what they have done. They should be under constant scrutiny and they would expect that. If things drop off and we find ourselves slipping back then there should be questions of what do they do next and whether that is the right direction. Likewise if an immensely wealthy benefactor came calling and could put down financial guarantees to protect the club I think they should be asking whether they can offer the club the same future.
£50k in cash is probably more money than I would ever see in one place at the same time but it isn't going to dramatically change anything right now. 1 decent player? And they may do one before the next season starts.
If I had that sort of money to throw around I would be trying to work with what's already working or bide my time and wait for an another opportunity. When Widnes win we all win. Hats off to him. He obviously cares for the club and at another time when things are more dramatic his might be the way to go, but I think this is causing an unnecessary situation at an otherwise positive moment for the club.
What people need to factor in is that we are doing well but we are beating League 1 teams. The top 3 sides from last year are now in SL so a 7th placed finish becomes a 4th placed finish. Add to that Featherstone and Halifax went bump. Finishing 3rd or 4th this year is actually not progress its just the other teams are gone.
Add to that SL is becoming a closed shop and the IMG gradings are getting further and further away for Champ clubs. All this bide our time and build slowly is well and good in a fair and ideal world, but we need to wake up and understand the situation and circumstances we are faced with.
We have a 6 year plan and the ship has been steadied, thats to be applauded, but we are now 7 years in to the 'new Widnes' and need to move onto the next level. Thats whats meant by roll the dice, if we dont without being negative, I think SL dont care about the Championship and plan for it to become a feeder league for a 14 team SL.
