@sunny probably given a week off to see how jack does, It’s a nice change to have competition for places

The problem is, that decision may well have cost us the game.

End of story.

@johnny65 I don’t think we’re as bad as we all thought after the Swinton game but am definitely not saying we’re good. Deffo need someone who can take hold of and control a game and definitely need to have Roby back in the squad based on his recent performance, however Coleman really needs to learn his best squad because unless we’ve got injuries to more players then the club have let on how on earth we didn’t run the same squad from Bradford really baffles me.

I enjoyed the game, not a classic but a very good first half, struggled with holding the ball in the second. We were on top and held their enormous pack, and our defence was good till the last ten minutes when a rebound allowed them to score. After that they had their backs up and there was only going to be one winner.Thought Wilde was solid in our pack and our backs defended well. Mixed feeling about the loss as a thrashing by a SL team does no one any good 👍👍

I know it wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea but we all enjoyed being under the lights again

AC's comments were spot on.

Our first 60 mins was a defensive work out but when we got near to their line we bottled it! Fumbles at the ptb and JJ's passing was for the birds - it looked like we got too excited and forgot the basics!

I'm not too bothered about changes in personnel atm, they all have to get a game and the non-league games are probably the best chance from the coach's point of view.

But overall there is an improvement on last year and plenty to work on. Ollie Brookes looked massive, more like a second row!!!

Have to mention the two above the shoulder shots unseen by the ref who was looking elsewhere!!!!!

@sandgroper the Ref was awful hardly got anything off him yesterday, also missed the offside from there first try man plays the ball hooker kicks through man who played the ball and was offside picks up and scores… however you also make your own luck and too many penalties and Six agains killed us gotta be smarter and play to the ref

Yes but what about his assistants? It is their job to help the referee as regards that type of thing.

Roby has got to play next week & also Walker if we want to beat Barrow. IMO Walker is very underated. When he plays we usually win. He is much better than Kirk. I would also choose Bent at loose forward or relief hooker.

Yes walker deffo, surprised he was left out. Bent over AC s gregson and Roby in - I still reckon in the halves

How about Max Roberts at 13? Yeah I think Walker brings something different with an offload and attracts players around him. Wish he was just a little fitter because not a bad player. Roby at 6 and Dixon hopefully back soon for fullback. Is there a chance of 1 or 2 extra quality from Warrington in the league campaign? Don't want to rely on dual, but I feel another fit big forward and halfback could make a difference. Hope Reilly is back soon got some size.

What was going on with that absolute whopper who was running the line 10m in field all the while?!?! WTAF??? He still missed most of the indiscretions too!!!

Many moons ago Ellery Handley was always 'downtown', in front of the ball, for Wigan but was never called out. My son was doing a refereeing course at the time and wrote to the League to query Ellery's play. Their reply was that he was offside but that they didn't bother to penalise him!!!

I do not recall Hanley doing that to be honest. It was Edwards whom I remember always running off side. There was one particular  Lancashire cup tie when he did it deliberately all the time. He was penalised but he knew the bigger Wigan pack would just push us back & they won nearly every scrum & the game.

I think the ruling is, when the ball is landing and the Opposition field it, you have to give them 10m. Hence you hear the Ref's calling out to players "Your'e in the ten, Ellery/Shaun/Goodway/Dean Bell etc etc etc" Wigan played that 'technicality' really well, copied from the NRL at the time.

Kicking duels with opposition full backs ringed by players outside the 10 yards were features of the unlimited tackle game well before NFL.
