Well really why don’t we play swinton 6 times and 3 other teams he same
absolute crap
What am I missing as I cannot see why we are not playing NW Crusaders but Workington & Dewsbury?
I thought it was the 5 teams above & below that we would play plus 4 more against "local" sides.
Going on league placings 5 above & below. Only three above plus Salford makes 4 of Salford, Oldham, Halifax & Festherstone. 5 below are Doncaster, Barrow. London, Sheffield, & Batley. That is only 9 so presumably would have to go below again which is Hunslet, or if classed as relegated which is logical, it would be Crusaders.
How do Love RL get us playing, Workington & Dewsbury?
Mystified!!

@geoffw it's because each team has a ranking on a table going off that rather than your exact position last season
@prisoner It is not a problem. My mystification is how the fixtures are arrived at. From the next 5 sides beneath us London & Batley disappear. Why play Dewsbury & Hunslet ahead of Crusaders?
Its no big conspiracy theory it's a complicated fixture list to which it is impossible to do that format for every club. We just need to concentrate on winning not who we play. I have just calculated the travelling distance to away grounds for ourselves an Halifax, ours is 761 miles and Fax's 683. With fax having more closer teams near to them I think that works out fairly.@prisoner It is not a problem. My mystification is how the fixtures are arrived at. People seem to forget that not to long ago teams won the league and didn't play every team in that league so it's nothing new.

When was the last time this was done?
Here's a breakdown of it, including a video explanation from Steve Neale: https://widnesrugby.com/blogs/who-widnes-will-likely-play-in-the-2026-championship-fixture-list/
You can't expect the RFL to give it too much thought, they don't give a monkey's.
I give this new structure 12 months. I expect (1) a team to fold at some point, (2) fixtures to go unfulfilled, (3) everyone to lose the will to live by about June.
The last time it was one division was 1972
I wouldn’t call that recently Prisoner

Just 53 years ago.... lol
The players used to come to the matches on horses then.
@jdgsport So it is not the actual 5 clubs that finished above & below rather those around the circle. This is based on Salford at summit then 2nd one side of circle the 3rd placed on the other etc etc.
Thanks James.
