I've heard there is a possibility that we will be getting Caleb Aekins from Leigh. Would be a good move if true!

If we could sign him I would . He is better than the cover we already have for full back. I'd also take a chance on the right winger for Wales (Evans?) . He and Dixon would give us more fire power .

Nothing wrong with players from Wales! Will we ever recruit stars like Big Jim Mills, Jonathan Davies or John Deveraux again, I wonder??

Reading the RL gossip just now, Aekins seems strongly linked with Kieghley or Featherstone.

I know this is only gossip , but Kieghley seem to be linked to a lot of players and unless they have a very generous money man , they seem to be assembling a good squad. Their  income certainly is not from gate money , as the last few times I have been , the home crowd seems to be made up of two men and a dog , and I am sure the dog does not pay.

Do not get me wrong , I like to see clubs bringing in money and investing in players , but I thought we had a much bigger player budget this year and we must have more rugby related income than most in the championship.

At this moment , I can see us pushing for a play off position, but not much more.

Pretty sad when see small clubs buying better quality. It does seem the club just want to just plod along, I rather see them look for new investors and be top 2 every year in the league Only get 1 life and it seems club just think fans will turn up for mediocrity. I still think 4th to 6th but prefer us aiming for top 2 ambition at least.

@pascal I think the trouble is that they don’t have the business knowledge or connections to turn a part time small business into a full time professional one and certainly not one making a healthy profit.

it’s not really their fault - they are just local blokes trying to keep the club (and game) alive in the town.

The thing is any decent sized investor wouldn’t touch Rugby League with a barge pole - no real infrastructure, no real customer base and not a snowball in hell’s chance of making any sort of profit at all.

Our only choices as fans are to slowly go mad bickering at each other and blaming blokes who are trying their best but are out of their depth or watch the game for what it is, which is about one level up from Simmies playing Wigan St Pats on Gossages Rec in the 1970’s.

I’ve said it before finney has the club at heart but doesn’t look like the man to steer the club back up to the top table

that’s just my opinion

Royston Vasey I see your point but it just seems we are just existing with no ambition. I sometimes think would it have been better if we went to liquidation at the time and Koukash and Backhouse would have bought us for nothing. They was interested, but unfortunately the Council did not want to let it go as they are after the money. I wish the Council had the club at heart, and gave us a percentage on Pies and drinks sales to invest in a better team. If they thought of it more fans means more sales, which would be better for the club and the Council. I just feel we will lose more fans due to mediocrity and lack of ambition. I agree the owners mean well, and I hope one day a rich fan decides to pump money into the club like Beaumont from Leigh 💪👍👌🥖🥖

Do you think the Council would offer you a franchise so that you could sell genuine warm and delicious buttered baguettes in the tea bars? Any profits could be donated to buy a much needed proper prop!

@pascal Spot on mate - the council is probably the only thing in the town than the club and it’s a genuine shame that the council can’t see the potential that they and the club and the town could really benefit from. It’s just sad.

@royston-vasey problem is the council is on its arse like all other council's so they probably won't give anything up and will probably hike up the prices next season.

Our council, like most others, is in no position to make financial gestures. That's not to say there couldn't be a collaboration that could work but let's nip this 'council holding us back' in the bud, the council has a much bigger responsibility to its residents than it does to a local sports club.

Didn't we go 'cap in hand' to HBC when we were skint? (sounds familiar) Just saying like 😰
