We know just as good as you as it’s all our own opinions without unlike yourself slagging and knocking people down. If you don’t like opinions then why you here ?.

Totally agree, all about opinions. Not sure I have slagged or knocked anyone down, simply expressed a contrary view. I do not profess any expertise, just many years of supporting Widnes and the game of rugby league.

My opinion is that Simon Finnegan is a decent appointment and well done to the Board for not dragging the process on. I am prepared to accept what they have said and appointed the best applicant to the job. Others may not share that view. That's fine.

I read that Finnegan was born in Warrington, but grew up in Australia and came back when he signed for Widnes in 2003.  Maybe the Australian link clinched it? He is an Irish International, but not sure that means much these days.

Apologies. Not sure how that happened as I thought that I was responding to MG's comment.

There seems to be some who just don't appreciate how near the club were to absolute disaster. We are operating with much reduced staff and relying on voluntary effort. That we are still in business at all is a miracle but it will take time and careful management before we are back where we should be and operating as a contender for promotion.

Any team promoted to SL this year will be given a little more than half of the established SL teams. This means that they will need major cash input to truly compete in the SL competition.

With a well supported and successful season next year maybe we could aim to be at least part FT in 2022. On that basis we should express our intention to climb back into SL in due course, but not this year.

You never know we might get a total league reorganisation after the TWP trauma has past!

Well we have a new coach and hopefully in the next month an announcement the championship will start in March with crowds.

in the meantime the bunfight for the SL position will gain momentum

I’ve missed the cracking comments on this board! 😂

if you lack ambition, you’re a journeyman, clueless and just stealing a living, but turn up with ambition and you’re ‘dangerous’! Only in Widnes!

My view is that Finnegan came as a surprise, but not an unpleasant one when I looked at his history. As with any coach, he’ll hope that a Championship side will be a good career stepping stone for him so he’ll need his time here to go well. Fail and he will be sliding down the greasy pole!

The part we can all get behind though is the fact that he played for the badge and was here at a time when that pride and spirit meant something. If he can I still that spirit back to the team then he will do well here. I wish him well. My only concern will be around the spirit of the players signed by Sheens and their respect for a new coach in the circumstances.

Think in terms of attracting a certain level of player the coach profile can be pivotal…dont really see Finnegan fitting that although he may attract ex Toronto players…for me if Henderson or marshall were possible they’d be a very smart appointment…already recognised as top coaches and would be handy with their links at saints n wire in terms of possible loans ….

I don't really understand why Henderson or Marshall would have a better chance of attracting players than Finnigan to be honest. I'm sure Widnes had a relationship with both Warrington and St Helens long before either of those two arrived at those respective clubs.

I'm not really sure who else people were expecting. I'm a little surprised Finnigan left Newcastle, especially as they may well now get promoted to the Championship by default. I'm sure there was a bit of pressure up there after their play-off final defeat to Oldham which was a blow to their plans.

Still baffled by the Sheens situation, but so be it.

Bloody Hell James I know we are not world champions anymore, but been surprised is something. An a ex Widnes player who currently lives in Widnes, leaving a league 1 club that is 250 miles away from where he lives,  Newcastle are always going to be boom n bust.
