Sheffield game

Didn’t expect us to win this one but didn’t think we’d go down the way we did. A lot of players off the ball today especially amor n Lawton doesn’t help having so many injuries but no excuses for that performance for me (ref awful as well) definitely need to spend some money and get a good halfback/utility in this team as will be a long season with the Lyon’s and craven partnership again…. Don’t get me started on fozard either😅

Error strewn shambles in the first 20 minutes basically killed us off. Sheffield we’re on the front foot for virtually the entire first half. We did have a few chances to close the gap after half time but it was always going to be a big ask. Squad does need strengthening but essentially today was a well below-par performance. Hopefully we can bounce back quickly.

League is very open without fev and Toulouse, having said that I think we will give Toulouse a game at our place if j and farnworth back

10 percent agree with you DD, and we must play our strongest side for the Toulouse fixture. The Frenchies are, and have been, beatable.

Fortunately, we should be able to rest any players who has a niggling injury for next weeks home cup game.

@ditton-donkey fingers crossed we bounce back from this result and put it behind us however I do think we need some more attacking options if we want to worry the likes of fev and Toulouse because atm Lyon’s and craven aren’t good enough to run with for the rest of the season. Think today would be a lot different if we had Gilmore and Dixon fit, ref didn’t help and looked like he wanted to pen us every opportunity he got. A lot of things to put right in the next few weeks

No mistake about it- that was an embarrassment of a performance.

Don't think I’ve ever seen as bad a 20 minutes as that. Abysmal. Lawton, Bent and Amor should be dropped if we had any decent replacements. Telling they were brought off and left on the bench for a long time.

Had a ‘bright’ 15 minute spell after half time but that was it. Even then we were camped on their line and only scored once, a concern.

Think the negatives of today far outweigh the positives from Monday. That was a concern, looked like the Widnes we’ve come to see in the Championship.

Went today. Really poor show from us. Said after 5 mins Lawton looked off the pace. Not all his fault but we do rely on him to take us forward. Why doesn't Olly D start? Craven sin bin was awful from a player of his experience. We are really missed Farnworth, JJ and Dixon today. Ah well nice drive there and back over Woodhead 🤣

Points of view today.

1. Sheffield looked massive

2. We had no ball for the first 20 mins

3. Ref murdered us, and gave SE everything, and us very little

4. At 24-6 down at HT, we were held up over the line twice, and Foz knocked on in trying to ground the ball for a certain        try.

5. Their 3 second half tries were preventable.

6. SE continue to be our bogey team. Put it to bed, and regroup for the CC & TOxiii

Yes, LAWTON and BENT were substituted immediately after missing tackles, but with LAWTON also contributing a knock on whilst playing the ball (which looked like interference, if I am honest).  Those first twenty five minutes we had to defend 48 tackles on the back of a procession of penalties and resultant GLD...from which came 4 tries from 6 forays onto our line...this is where we lost the game - early on.  We ended up on their line three times in the first half and came up with nothing - not even a GLD...it was a typical away day in Yorkshire, and playing the official, too..........dreadful, I am afraid.

The 3 close call tries (2 held up and 1 knock on) was at 26-12 was it not?

foeming was convinced he’d got it down for the 3rd one. One of them goes our way and it could of been a complete different last 15 mins but such is live sport

That’s right, I would be interested in the opinions of those who stood being the posts regarding the Fleming and Owens disallowed efforts as was impossible to tell from the angle I was watching from whether they got the ball down. Fozard clearly lost the ball before the line though.

We were terrible in the first half, but played better in the second half, after Kear probably had a go at them. Could easily have had 3 tries, 1 correctly disallowed for dropping the ball while putting it down, but the 2 others looked very close, then Sheffield go the other end of the pitch and looked to be held up over the line, but the ref says that one’s a try, and our heads went down, and we gave them 2 length of the field tries when there was nothing on.

It does look a very open division so far this season, apart from Fev. With most sides losing or winning matches unexpectedly.

Hopefully JJ, who was close to playing yesterday, will be back next week, and can have an easy run out, before we face Toulouse, and hopefully 1-2 good on loan players.

Definitely need a few loan players of quality, and players need to look in the mirror if good enough. Definitely miss Farnworth, JJ, Gilmore and Dixon.
