What are suggestions for the club to get more people through the turnstiles? Obviously winning games would but we don’t have the players budget atm. So…

a better game day experience suggestions anyone?

free season tickets to all youth amateur players U16 in Halton accompanied with paying adult

free schools kids tickets accompanied with paying adult

Company tickets for paying sponsors

getting bums on seats has to be a priority

I know it's trendy to have a go at councils these days but let's face some truths. Halton council have bailed out the club multiple times; more than they should have. They picked up the tab in the mid/late 90s when the club over-reached, bought and re-developed the ground, they partly picked up the tab when the club went into Administration by foregoing rent that was due. Blaming the council for the club's ineptitude is taking the piss.

The council have done enough for the club. If the town of Widnes/Borough of Halton can't support a part-time 2,500 a week attendance rugby game every other week, you know what? Maybe the interest just isn't there.

@gpo1971 I think without knowing the tenancy rates etc it’s difficult to defend the council, what we do know is they have made a pretty penny off the club since the late 90’s. We aren’t making much  from food/beverage sales from the fans who have come to watch the rugby. To be honest we know very little about a lot of the relationship between the club and the council

You say we know very little about things but you seem to know loads!!! As mentioned here:

The council have made a pretty penny off the club since the late 90s. Really, how much?

We aren’t making much from food/beverage sales from the fans who have come to watch the rugby. Can you please explain how you've come to this conclusion?

I think without knowing the tenancy rates etc it’s difficult to defend the council. OK, what are the tenancy rates? Find them out or don't bother using them as an argument.

To be honest we know very little about a lot of the relationship between the club and the council. Enough for you to cast aspersions though. Any facts?

Mate. That's an 8-yr olds argument.

Sticking to basic facts regarding WVIPS (our only self-help funding) with a membership if just over 200, many donating £5 per month, some more.

We have the vision of 10% of our regular fan base carrying the 90% !!!!!

Get the 90% involved and contributing even £5 per month and we would be much better placed. Even discounting kids we would have an income of around £1m per year.

That would be a good start!!!!

@gpo1971 The mid 90's was 30 years  ago. The club wasn't the same then. A more realistic base would be from 2019 when the new ownership came in.

I can only comment on what I see from a fans perspective and the game day experience is woeful. Dirty seats that haven't been cleaned at all this season. Lack of turnstiles open for access. Very poor food and drinks option's on the concourse bars. Lack of staff, big queues meaning I don't bother.

The club and the council should be working together to achieve a mutual goal that would benefit both parties.

On a separate note, the stadium is so big that game day use isnt sufficient to justify its existence anymore.  I'm sure more community use could be taken from it. The cafe for example and the old gym is an empty room. Someone needs to get hold of it as it could be a great community facility given half a chance.

If half to three quarters of our Season ticket holders joined WVIPS for £5 a month realising it could benefit 2 extra quality players to the squad. Think 700 WVIPS members at £5 per month would be about 42k a season. A pint of beer is a fiver, or a ready meal. Obviously some pay more and myself and Begster my mate don't have Season tickets,, but we do WVIPS. You could live in Australia, America, Cyprus or Spain and still join up to help the club. Every little helps and as Lord Lucan the Featherstone fan put across, that most of there funds don't just come from Crowds

Yes they should work together but it is the club not the council we pay pay to watch a game so they are not our landlords  it is WRLFC and should be doing everything to provide better match day experiences. This is the main reason that even die hards are not attending anymore I have never been to a worse ground for drinks and refreshments or hospitality.

I think the club get about 20% of the sales of food and drinks sold at the club.

I think it’s the councils job as landlord to decide what and how much food and drinks are available at each match, and their responsibility to clean the seats , that haven’t been cleaned for years, in the South stand, and i presume the North.

I remember after the last fans meeting, Stuart Murphy wasn’t very complimentary when asked about the help they were getting from the council.

I agree the club need to do more as well, and should be having a marketing campaign to try and get more people to join the WVIP’s. It’s not enough to put out forms to join on tables at fans evenings, perhaps giving a joining form out to each person that comes through the turnstiles at matches.

lol can't even get a golden gamble at some games !! Viqi was our way out it had goodwill from the town when the club was saved and up to 1k members but once that went and getting people to put money in when the economy is tight is difficult

the club needs to do its bit attracting new sponsors or bigger sponsors we as fans have to vips but maybe if they could include a lottery you might get non fans contributing

we all want the same no matter which way we look at it but the window to change is getting smaller
