People like to slam the Council but realistically the cost of maintaining a 13,000 to 14,000 seater stadium is not cheap. The Council has also been hit badly by Government cuts.

Excellent point,Geoff. But there always has to be a pantomime villain thwarting poor old Widnes.

I don’t see anyone slamming the council?

maybe my comment has been misconstrued or written using the wrong words I was simply asking the question of how much are we being charged to train/olay/use the facilities compared to those clubs who are spending more than us do on their stadium

not everything is an agenda

Whatever the problem was the loss of VIQI has left a dent in the finances....

It does make me wonder whether we would have been any worse off still owning the ground and piecemeal developing it as the Framing the Future and Licensing didn't seem to really negate Cas or Wakefield and also for a long time Salford!

Mate the RFL seem to just change the goal posts to suit them and as you say Wakefield and Castlefords stadium are hardly any good. Personally if I was a director at Widnes, I would not listen to the RFL and try and get the best team possible on the pitch. People go to watch the first team and winning on the pitch gets fans to the games. WVIPS is good to bring in money but take time to build up the numbers. I would probably sell the stadium to a housing development and look at a 8.5 k stadium somewhere . 🤣 We fell for the RFL bullshit 💩

I think whatever the rules / IMG ratings , Widnes are not welcome in SL

and as time goes on I care less and less each year

we need to just enjoy where we are and play some watchable rugby

would you like to be a Rochdale fan ?

@berkeleyviking as a club need to strive to be in the top tier of British rugby league, I understand in our current position we need to build a team that can compete at the top of the championship but we shouldn’t give up hope on returning to the super league

There should always be a goal and strive for the best you can be in sport. It is about competing and at the moment I would be aiming to be the best team on the pitch. The IMG rules are bulshit but if we aim to be the best team in the Championship should be our focus. It would be nice to win the Grand Final and a regular team in the playoffs.

@begg I think some of what IMG requires are basic standards and should be applied but the whole catchment area section I personally don’t agree with

I do not like a few such as the stadium capacity percentage is ridiculous we be better with a 6k stadium, The other is the number of seats short by 6 in executive boxes.

Totally agree BEGG the fact we have a large stadium due to following the RFL’s Shaping the Future rules (that others didn’t even bother with) doesn’t change how many fans we attract in the same way Wigan, Saints, etc have. Shuddersfield must have a shocking percentage

To all intents and purposes Widnes play in a 7500 stadium with both the East and West stands more or less redundant.I think the club requested this be taken into account next time.

Hence why Hudds are moving to the Shay, whilst their new ground is being built (similar capacity to York)

@mckviking I'm afraid even with a Beaumont type character super league is beyond us now

look at attendances in super league they're on about going to 10 teams which means Leigh (averaging 8k and Wakefield 7.5k ) won't make it and we even in exceptional years of trophy winning struggled to get those figures the game is moving on and we don't fit the criteria for what they want big city teams so we need to be up there as best of rest

Yes sadly we find ourselves currently struggling for funds in the championship but look at hull kr they have rebuilt and are doing well so it’s possible. I’m not sure of how they financed their come back
