👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 To all our support who made the journey today!

Im not sure how many made the journey but you could be heard on the radio and for a β€˜no hope’ game today I thought it warranted a post of its own just to shout it out!

We may not be doing well on the pitch, but our travelling support is the best in the division!

Summat on RL Fans saying there were less Chemics there than when Sheff were the visitors.

I find that difficult to believe, but.....

Would anyone who went, care to comment on that please?

Spelly.

There were fewer than 100 away fans there.

I'd be amazed if that was less than what Sheffield took, mind.

There were 50/60 of us, tops. I made a late call at 12.30 and made the trip on my own, as our regular Alan Rae bus had been cancelled, 2 weeks back. Crowd was 4317. A figure we can only wish for.

Know the feeling!

Prob our worst following last year was at Bradford, when the coach was cancelled, and there were only about forty Lions in that vast Osdal bowl.

I reckon we're averaging around 150 this season, and the next away trip is to Huns a fortnight today, so hopefully, we'll have a similar amount at the SLS.

As a Fev fan I thought the 50-60 Widnes fans who made the trip were tremendous. Still encouraging the team long after it was clear it was a one-sided game and with so much enthusiasm. No greater test of a supporter than in circumstances like that and they were great.Β  Stayed to applaud the team afterwards too which I am sure the players appreciated.

You have to be big enough to be magnanimous in defeat. We, even outside our β€˜glory days’, have inflicted similar hammerings on others.

Fev fans are having their glory days after their last big win – the Challenge Cup in 1983!!!! Can’t begrudge them a bit of crowing time. They will know that success, real success, will only come at the end of the season, if at all.

I have to let myself smile a little at their Coach who famously decried β€˜small towns in the North of England not being the future of RL!’ How are the mighty fallen!

What we have to do, however, is look at ourselves again and try to move forward.

The saving of the club and the boost to VIQI was an achievement in itself, but not enough to lift the club to the top again.

Funding, like it or not, is the essential requirement if we are to grow. We are still relying on fan support to man the shop for instance and iirc VIQI relies on just over a thousand subscribers. Fans complain about the ticket price but filling the ground with give-away tickets doesn’t pay the bills.

Fev, we are told, have built a massive sponsorship scheme, presumably from the small businesses in what is a very small population.

The whole country is looking at a massive cost of living hike so asking for local donations might well be fruitless and we will have all on to hang on to our existing support. But some new ideas have to be forthcoming from somewhere.
