Oldham team

I’ve got to say I hate Oldham! They’re our new Leigh!!! 🤣 Strange team choice unless AC’s got one eye on midweek fixture. Butty has been on fire and Flem looks nowhere near as fit. Lawton should’ve played for Roberts. Richardson not quite firing and our aggressive line speed was none existent, but please… when will we get a break with the referring team? I know you can say more dominant teams get what they deserve but this ref and his myopic linesmen?!?! Fook me that was awful.

Oldham were bigger and faster both in running and thought.........could play them 10 times and maybe win one.Their forwards were just too big and physical for us and they easily won the half back battle as a result. Richardson some good plays...Gilmore ?. Johnson and Foz did well in a beaten pack situation...the rest tried hard but were just outplayed.

Can`t really fault the effort just not good enough

Makes the Doncaster game a real 4 pointer and a must win for a top 5 place

Poor performance, ref was poor but would of still lost anyway. I did say with the new league structure, dont get carried away with easy wins agsinst league 1 sides. Lost to London (fair enough) Barrow, Doncaster and Oldham.

Thinking about it, if Bradford. York and Toulouse hadnt been put in SL and Featherstone and Fax hadnt gone bump I think we would be in 10th place in last seasons Championship. Against genuine Championsip teams we have beaten Oldham away by 6 points and Sheffield at home by 4.

For me personally I think it was the effort the lads put in I just don’t think we turned up from the start Oldham looked like they wanted it more than us, we looked defeated at half time.

Agree dons is now a must win as is all games but today’s result adds more pressure.

Not sure AC got it right with certain team selection. If we don’t beat dons and barrow at home we’re back to square 1.

@threadx with Doncaster they only have 2 days recovery, are part time and have a 2 hour commute to the game after work.

We have 4 days recovery and are at home so that gives us a massive advantage, so im expecting us to win on Wednesday.

@dan1 fingers crossed but a big improvement on defence and attack will be needed to beat them.

Was a bit disappointed with us today really, only got going in the 2nd half when we were behind.

Oldham were more streetwise than us.

Need to beat Doncaster.

Hopefully we can also get Richardson gelling more over the next few weeks.

Refereeing made the margin wider than it should have been but Oldham were more effective than us.

I am a little surprised no-one has yet specifically mentioned the vicious attack in the first minute - a so-called tackle involving a late and deliberate blow to our players head - following which any other RFL referee would have redcarded the Oldham player. But not Mr Lynn...who didn't even appear to talk to their player or put the incident on report.

That set the tone of the game.

Oldham knew they could foul tackle, be offside chasing kicks or at our play-the balls, knock on, forward pass, all without being pulled up by Mr Lynn or his two merry flagwavers.

And take advantage of this situation they did.

Instead of being down to 12 men in the first minute, Oldham were allowed to do what they wanted.

A potentially cracking game was spoiled.

Mr Lynn failed to adjudicate the game fairly and without favour, and abdicated the duty of care he owed to our players.

I can't remember watching any previous game which was refereed in a so bad and biased way.

Does anyone know - could the Widnes club complain to the RFL about the way the game was handled by  Mr Lynn?

We lost the 2 points. The result can't be changed. Oldham started and finished the game with 13 men on the field. But Mr Lynn could be kept away from being in charge of any future game of Rugby League.

Can anyone with RL coaching badges explain to me re attacking kicks. Should kicks in the air not  be across the field, ours seem too straight and one actually resulted in a 7 tackle set and an Oldham try .Secondly have some height on them, our little dinks are easy to deal with and lastly be within less than 5 m of the try line, ours are landing too far out. Oldham, first try long high cross field wasn't helped by Widnes player being rooted to the ground but a great deal harder to sort on defence.

If you can't kick in the air slide some grubber kicks through, did we do any? Aren't they harder to deal with anyway.

There is just not enough veriaty

In the NRL you don't see the sort of attacking kicking that Widnes do ,the kicks pose much more threat

For Wednesday hopefully Edge and Butt back from minor injuries, McQuirter at loose forward and Lawton on the bench.

@sunny just watched the tries from last night not sure Walker reached the line just before half time , and Hartill looks to have bounced his try

our lads were disgusted at that one Oldham were the better team but the gap wasn't that much but I don't think we were allowed to put any pressure on them every time we penned them in there'd be a penalty so they were never under stress either on scoreboard or field position

@sunny I’d have to agree with you, the performance from matty lynn was disgraceful should be nowhere near the field but that’s the sad state the games in when we have amateur referees taking control he was poor both ways but they certainly got the rub of the green in some decisions especially the 3 knock on’s constant offside’s and you’re right that high tackle should’ve been a red card it was late and reckless. But if Oldham can see how to play him why couldn’t we

@vikingfox71 We called those two 'tries' as knock-ons at the time, but I've not seen the highlights yet.

@owl No argument from me on this.

Overall the Referee and his TJs completely ruined the game. On the first tackle we had, the Oldham player should have at least got a 'Yellow', and he may have, if we all hadn't ran in causing a melee. We have to be more disciplined in those situations and let the Ref sort it. We lost out as he deemed pulling the Captains for a chat sufficient. I don't think I've seen so many 'knock-ons' unpunished. Coleman was absolutely raging on the bench, and rightly so. A bad night at the office, Oldham did a job on us, fair play to them.
