@pascal if they make it a 14 team super league from 2024 we have a chance the second time round of licensing. I think it’s too early for us to go up in 2024

@pascal I think there will be more emphasis on city teams like York, Newcastle, London etc so we’ll have to come up with something substantial to get a seat back at the top table

Yeah hence the reason we will never get to the top league. Newcastle will fail because mad on football and London has always failed with crap attendances at games. York could do okay, but another close to Leeds and RFL HQ. It is a joke and no incentive to get excited as a Widnes fan.

@pascal it’s all about finding the right players at the right time and then the coach instilling the team spirit with good game plan. We need success on the pitch again soon otherwise our crowds will dwindle and also our funds. That’s the reality of any club, look at Bradford and how they’ve struggled. I doubt without major investment they’ll recover fully.

I have noticed a lot of championship clubs announcing overseas signings from the NSW cup etc. why are we not looking at these leagues

Definitely we need a few from NSW Cup type of players. Can we get Doug Laughton as our Scout again. 😂🥖🥖 On a serious note all we need to do is to be competitive, and be a top 4 side until our chance comes along. Teams will go bust unfortunately, and I feel the club just need to recruit wisely, and one day hopefully a big backer comes along. 🥖🥖💪👍

@pascal

Our aim has to be to focus to top the Championship and win the 1895 Cup year on year.

The Challenge Cup rounds aren't worth a carrot unless we have a chance to win that game. A game to just be a punch bag for the SL Hierarchy gains us nowt and could disrupt our focus.

Our lads will be those who are already PT and probably happy with a job and a playing wage, like we have now. By chance that will be back to 1895!!!!

Our team, like it or not, will need to be very similar to Batley's, hard and uncompromising, some skill but hard to crack.

An academy to bring youngsters in for SL to poach when they like is a waste of resources. Better to make a real cooperative with our amateur clubs with them getting help in our facilities, coaching and development. We could look at them playing as a double header when we have a 'big' game on, maybe with a slice of the gate or a bucket collection.

If their players impress and can be accommodated they could progress to our squad.

@sunny I think Gilmore cannot be announced until his current contract expires and got a big game left to play

I like the idea of giving free tickets to all amateur youth players within the town with a paying adult to get bums on seats

The way I see it is that we are a self-financing club, of necessity, so it needs to be Widnes community against the rest - 'My Team My Town' I suppose.

That seems to be the culture that JK is looking for in the team and it can generate a spirit that is hard to put down. It looks very much like the SL's favoured few are holding the strings and just where we go from here is pretty sketchy.

I just wonder where Keighley etc are hoping to get to, hardly 'City' teams!!! It looks very much as if the repetitive Wigan v St Helens etc is with us forever in the big competitions.

At least now the Championship teams have a chance to show the TV audience that we have an entertaining game at our level.

Anyway, get some signings out and start pre-season !!!!!!

It’s good that the lack of incoming players suggests signings from Leigh and Batley! I’d also imagine that there may be one or two targets coming over for the RLWC as well.

There will be players and agents shopping around for the best deal, some will be hanging on waiting for better offer even if they have said 'yes'. Getting the ink on the paper is the thing!

You have missed out Farnworth, Johnson the prop, Wilde, Grady, Olly Davies, and personally I like Fleming at Full back. This squad shows we need a few centres, back rower and possibly another prop. Think Brookes still with us the winger too as a squad player.

Does anyone know what has happened to Doro? Is he back at Warrington, signed elsewhere or out of a job?

I thought he was one of our more consistent players last season, would have liked us to have signed him if possible.
