Assuming then that is our squad for 2026 completed with 26 players. Like others I think we are light in the prop department.
Looking at the squad when all fit it would seem probable Wilde & Lawton will be 11 &12 with Langtree when fit on the bench. That leaves Mc Whirter spare.
Would it not seem logical therefore to play him as a relief prop from the bench? Lawton could play prop but as others have said he performs better from second row running out wide at backs.
Overall I think the squad is better than last year but weaker on paper with London, Oldham, Doncaster & possibly Sheffield before you start to contend with the uneven playing field of the fixture set up of all the clubs that finished below us last season.
How many starters are amongst our signings Abdul , chapplehow, wilde
so basically we are not much different than last season Abdul a improvement we hope but not played for a year wilde not as good as condon and chapplehow is chapplehow so we really haven't improved enough to expect higher than 5th maybe ?
The recruitment strategy or lack of completely baffles me. We have just made the same mistakes time again. 4 half backs, 4 wingers and 3 props in the squad.
2 young wingers and a half back that won't play 1st team and now not even a league 1 to loan them out to develop. Without a reserves side just how will we develop them and how long will they stick around for?
Someone correct me if im wrong I just don't understand what we are doing. What I will say is if we get a couple of injuries then play these lads. Dont loan SL reserves ahead of them. But why didn't we wait and sign a prop instead.
Never heard of this lad but those of us who were at Oldham away and watched Gregson and Fozard trying to play half's can vouch for the fact that you probably do need 4x half backs. One of them will cover hooker.
we will definitely need a couple more props though.
Looks to me as if we are trying to build a batch of young talent that we might have had with a successful academy structure.
That could matter if we were being assessed to progress to SL next year maybe.
Depends how much of our budget we’re spending on these young players and if they’re prepared to wait round for players to get injured, before they get a chance to prove themselves, or wether they just want to go somewhere else after a couple of months, like last season.
Some clips of Toby Hughes on You Tube playing against Newcastle. I know not a great team but scored a few tries and has a good step on him and a change of speed.
Noticed also that the forward signing for Fax never got to play for Wire. They preferred their young lads who had played well for us!
Okoro was on loan all of last season, started at Cas, not sure where he finished up.
He has only made 37 appearances in 5 years - none for the dire
@7-vikingnomad he's only 22 so 37 senior appearances at prop is not bad going at that age. 6"4 so a big lad. Fax have made 6 decent signings now so rumours of them not being as strong next season seem unfounded. Douglas to the Bulls is a loss but only Featherstone and Salford seem weaker.
The increase in the SL quota to 10 players seems to have made more available. London will walk the Championship and be in SL in 2027 in my opinion
Halifax signing a lot of players, considering rheyre supposed to be in the verge of bankruptcy

Yeah very strange seen as money problems
@begg I wonder if it has anything to do with the purchase of The Shay by Ken Davy has anything to with it. He has agreed to buy the ground from the Council to base Huddersfield until a purpose built ground is built in Kirklees in a couple of years time.
The ground is shared with Halifax Panthers RFL and FC Halifax Town. There have been local objections to the sale, particularly from Halifax Town supporters. Maybe Davy has slipped a sweetener to the Panthers to get them on board with the sale?

Possibly Frank and I am sure things will be revealed sometime through the season. Anyway I am looking forward to the season even if I think we need one more big prop. 👍
