Any news on ambition for Superleague. Looks like Salford and Wakefield struggling on finances now.  Definitely like the kit and I will be purchasing  one. 👍👌

That is a great kit. I wasn't too impressed with this year's home kit and didn't like the away one, but I think I will be buying the third kit.

Of course there is ambitions for a return to SL, but we have to achieve the IMG criteria. Hamilton & Price came across really well in their explanations (too many to list here). Our biggest 'asset' is the stadium, but it's also our weakest 'asset' because it has 11,000 empty seats every home game. Basically it's too big for WVRLFC.

That said, if we win the GF in Oct, then we go up. The IMGSL doesn't kick in 'til season 2025.

Ground always was too big. There was no need for the increased capacity when the east stand was added.Pointless.

@sinbad Probably, most if not all grounds in SL are too big for their Club, with plenty of empty seats.

I was at Naughton Park when we had a crowd of over 24,000 at at Cup replay against St Helens and a crowd of 19,000 in a cup game against Swinton on our epic journey to the CC final in 1964. There were nearly 15,000 at the game against the Australian touring team in 1990.

Not sure what our biggest crowd was in SL, but we always attracted decent crowds against the like of Warrington, St Helens and Wigan and clubs with decent travelling support.

You never know, if we ever return to SL and are competitive, we could have capacity crowds in the local derbies and cup games and an average attendance of 7,000 plus.

If we were to win the GF this year, do you think we would accept a place in SL?

I mean, you'd like to think so, but, think about it for a minute.

To even have a semblance of a chance of survival, we'd need to go full-time and recruit more or less a new squad. Wakey are full-time, can't win a game and average 5 points a match. And would any of our current players get into their team?

I don't see how we could organise ourselves into something that wouldn't be an abject embarrassment. We'd end up getting relegated based on IMG's then recently implemented criteria and probably be in a worse place than we have been in recent years.

Until we're a Leigh or a Fev-in-waiting, is it worth winning? Sounds defeatist but, current set-up dictates we have a ceiling level of Championship.

Along with HBC, didn't Widnes do their very best to meet all of the criteria that were put in place to meet the requirements for entry into Super League?

And, if I am not mistaken, didn't that include a modern stadium with a capacity of at least 10,000?

It then transpired that those requirements appeared to quietly be dropped or disregarded - and have continued to remain so throughout the SL years.

So, I do find it hard to accept criticism regarding the size or quality of the Stadium, particularly when other current SL clubs have done little or nothing to improve their own grounds.

If there is any criticism to be made, then perhaps it should be aimed firmly at the door of the Rugby League Authorities who seem hell bent on disregarding its own criteria and making the sport a laughing stock.

@gpo1971 Probably unlikely this year, but what is the point of competing if we would reject entry to SL in the event of us qualifying.

My guess is that with the incentive of SL and the additional funding that will bring, there would be additional sponsorship and maybe even some local business' willing to invest.

Whether we can meet the IMG criteria for SL is another matter, but there are a few clubs already in SL that would struggle too.

A few more things from the meeting included a discussion regarded signings. Evans was full time at Whitehaven (playing golf with friends in the afternoon) and when he came here (Widnes) without a family he was bored being part time and became home sick so he asked for a release to go home. Johnson became a father and lived in Saddle-worth with a journey of 90 mins and often came late or missed training at our club. Again he asked for a release and it was granted. The two Chris’ said if JK identifies anyone he wants he can go for them but he believes in giving  the players at the club first chance. The cost of opening East and West stand is a decision made by Council, the cost of stewarding being the main factor as it costs thousands to implement. Regarding IMG, they don’t earn a penny until the RL makes a profit from their advice and probably only five clubs will be awarded an A grade at 15-20 points. League positions in the last three years are important and at the moment from the three leagues we are about 19th

The Halton stadium was built to the criteria in place at the time, after the Hillsborough disaster, as an all-seater stadium. The Council obeyed the rules at the time.

Of course the horrors of that tragedy were soon forgotten when the big boys got involved and large standing areas allowed in St Helens and Warrington, presumably on the basis that lightning won't strike twice. Seeing capacity crowds at Wire, for a start, we can only hope that sense will prevail.

Not bought one this year as was holding out for this one.

What is the sizing/fitting like? A bit tight, a bit loose or about right?

@yossarian the girls selling them said they are a tight fit and that’s correct!! Our eight year old grandson we bought (and it fits) a small adult and our five year old now possess’ a junior eight. They did have on show up to 5XL so I’m sure there will be one to fit you.👍👍

It's a nice kit. Why do you think we don't entertain the hoops anymore? Is it a sponsor thing? Wouldn't look right, not sure. Do any clubs do hoops these days?
