Widnes have announced they are closing the shop in the market and moving it to the stadium, with the same opening hours.
I wonder if it cost too much much to have a shop at the market. I don’t think we got much passing trade there.
Well it makes sense to get rid especially with rent and business costs a month to just sell a few things in a month. There is not much to buy and once everyone has bought the brand new kit I think sales will drop. Everyone can go online with computers or on your phone to buy merchandise, so why waste over 1k a month on rent and business rates? The club just need someone to check emails and orders regularly, and then reply efficiently. Hopefully the savings can get a decent loan from Warrington or Leigh.
Even less passing trade down Lowerhouse Lane.In fact, zero.
Matchday ticket sales will drop many hate queueing for 20 mins at the ground they would rather get their tickets when shopping down town. They should ask local stores to sell matchday tickets for them not as if we are talking thousands of sales.

A lot of people like myself do not live in Widnes. You come online to post on the Widnes Forum so all you need to do is go on the the Widnes Official site and buy a ticket online. An email comes through with a QR code. So all you need to do is show on the Gate Times are changing with Technology and is not rocket science.
I agree there will be no passing trade at the stadium, but the question is, how much was there at the market?
Enough to justify what we had to pay to have a shop there?
Hopefully we will get the answers from the club.
I am sure if they was making lots of money it would still be open. I will be happy to ask the relevant people in person if get the chance. It is nice to have a shop at the market for passers by mate and I am just assuming it is too costly overall.
It makes perfect economic sense to pull out of the Market, and move to the existing facility at the Stadium. The money saved could pay for a decent player at Championship level. If you wanted something specific, then you would drive to the Stadium (not have to pay to park) and buy, instead of going into the town. Personally, I think there's a hidden agenda for the market site, which started with the selling off of the Car Park. And with shops/stalls closing on a regular basis, it would leave a nice saleable asset for a massively in debt, HBC to get some monies in.
Watch this space...

@pascal that would get in the way of them complaining about the most minimal of things
