  1. Apparently we’re front runner for to re-sign Gill dudson, anyone heard this rumour? Reckon he’d be a good signing but he’d have to take a dip in wage to come back here

He would be a decent addition, his discipline is a bit hit and miss though.

@alanc I just think we've been there and done it before and I doubt he'll be taking p/t wages either.

Depends on the contract I suppose.If Hamilton is as frugal as people say then it won't be big money.That said,we need players on the pitch consistently,no matter what their salary.

I'd heard he was coming on loan rather than a permanent signing.

Despite his faults I still think he'd be an upgrade on some of this years props, if nothing else he brings a bit of aggression.

I don't like dirty tackles but I must admit that after a first half of our lads being worked over in the tackles I could guarantee my old dad, accepting the defeat, would have said 'well make sure they know they've been in a game, give 'em a few lumps'.

Sadly we have not had a pack that could do just that for a while now. All our 70's and 80's packs could play the game, rough or clever and visitors knew that and rarely tried the hard way.

Dudson is certainly big but hasn't set SL on fire yet. Maybe Wire see him as a ready reserve in the event that their new pack needs backup?

Well hard to say how he will do to be honest. One thing he is more of a prop than Lawton and our props hardly set the world on fire. One thing is he has size, and a few more big lads hopefully will stop us getting bullied in the pack.

@ditton-donkey

Looks a bit like 'beggars can't be choosers'!!!!

He is reaching his sell-by date in SL but at least has size and experience to offer.

A lot will depend on his attitude tbh. He gains another year as a SL prop and, properly applied, could provide us with part of a more powerful pack than we have had for years.

Again, its wait and see.

@sandgroper didn't he get a five game ban for punching someone on the floor this season.

That's exactly what we need 🤣

@richard-richard

That's not what we need, agreed! But it's the threat that we need. We don't want our lads smacked around as they were last week with virtually no ref protection and no hard response from our pack!

It's a fine line though!!!

Someone like Gil Dudson would be a a good signing. He would provide some size and aggression to the pack, which we have generally been lacking. I was at the match on Sunday and thought that Jim Mills, Brian Hogan etc would have sorted out some of the Sheffield players, who were roughing up Widnes players in every tackle, without necessarily being sent off.

How we would be able to sign him, when he could probably get another year in SL, is questionable, but in my view it would be a good signing and show that the Club does have some ambition. A talented stand-off, a strong running second row and a fast centre would also be useful.

Some of the posts on here....WOW!

We're rubbish.... terrible. Gil Dudson would not be far off the best prop in the league if he signed. We're not Brisbane Broncos for gods sake!

All props have poor discipline...

Widnes Vikings 2023, not even in the Championship best 6 and turning our nose up at an established, albeit perhaps veteran, Super League prop!

Beggars belief.
