For those that have listened James and mike discussed obviously the disappointment of maizen but also the possible new recruits incoming based on Coleman quoting ideally a squad of 27 .. assuming all those that haven't been named in the release list have new contracts that gives a squad of 18 meaning potentially 9 new recruits ...well documented that Patton ..bennion..Romeo and hall are 4 of those ...but just for debate anyone got any names they'd like to see the club target based on what anyone thinks we need .. obviously no Hollywood signings as we're not blessed with a magic pot of money ....I'll set the ball rolling with four names ...on the back of two props being released I'd want minimum two back in.. bennion looks like one ...I'd chuck Adam sidlow in there ...been round the block.. massive unit ..been at Oldham back at Salford but rumoured to being released ...not everyones cup of tea but adds size n aggression to a growing huge pack ....secondly I'd add Wellington Albert..same reasons as sidlow ..adds size and aggression...lastly as a back I'd add edene gebbie...likely to be leaving haven..covers multiple positions...quick..very powerful.. unfortunately has a knack of over doing the physicality but definitely box office on his day...lastly some won't have a clue who he is but I'd chuck in owain abel...those that have seen him know what a talent he is ..bit small for a FB but alot in the game think he has the ability to play 6 ..fast .. unbelievable feet ..let's have some names people ...
And yes I know I've said lastly twice..can't remember how to edit 😂
For the backs - two long shots.
Brand is being released, but will he accept a part time gig and salary?
Another old boy I was sad to see leave us, and YES, currently at Swinton but don't hold that against him - Hatton, a big lad now playing centre, scored a hat trick a few weeks ago, can now cover both wing and centre.
Patton I'm still not sure about but Coleman knows best. A bit of a Prima Donna and will want top money?
Not sure about signing a glut of players from the relegation zone but that's another argument.Keep doing that and it won't be long before you're joining them.
Albert might be a good shout if available. Not seen much of him since Widnes but I assume his game has come along a lot by now.Gadwin Springer maybe.Drinkwater if he wanted to come here and if we could afford him but the Patton signing puts that one out of the equation.
I'm confident I read this somewhere a day ago - but can't remember where!
I'll keep looking and let you know when I find it.
Jayden Hatton reportedly signed for Fev I believe.
Wellington I’d probably take
Brand I think would get a SL gig if he was eventually released by Leigh but could still be in negotiations
couple from Leigh that have been released that we’ve had previously could fit in - Nisbet can play centre and 2nd row, Jacob Jones I think his name was?
We don’t need flashy we need hard working grunt players that can compete at the top end of this league week in week out
I'm afraid I can't trace where I read the story about Brand, so can do no more than withdraw it.
where are the podcasts available to listen/view
@quincy1 normally a link is posted on twitter by mike parsons or James ..or on the Widnes fans Facebook page ... alternatively on Spotify or apple I think .just search Widnes chat
Of the Fev-related names mentioned...
Albert might be a possibility as I'm not sure Fev will retain him, he's been a bit in-and-out in his 2nd spell with the club (was better first time around) and on more than one occasion Ford has hauled him off after an error. What I'm not sure about is where he lives now, the family had another baby a few months ago and whether he'd want to travel regularly or move I don't know - if he does move to a team on the other side of the Pennines Oldham might be candidates especially as he's good mates with Mackenzie Yei.
Springer's already signed up for Fev for next year.
Most Swinton fans seem to think Hatton has signed for Fev.
It seems common knowledge that a player whose name rhymes with Hatton has signed for you next year though...he was good for the first couple of games he played but has done very little since returning from his 6-game ban and after playing poorly against Sheffield was dropped this week, barring injuries I doubt he plays for Fev again.
Nine players leaving Wakefield at the end of the season. Luke Gale and Jermaine McGillvary are retiring. Matty Ashurst is thought to be joining Oldham. Josh Bowden (prop), Derrell Olpherts (winger), Iain Thornley (centre), Toby Boothroyd (prop), Romain Franco (wing) and Ethan Wood (back row) are also leaving.
If Widnes have been caught out with Maizen returning to Australia, Thornley could be worth a look, still only 33 and bags of experience.
I have no insight on this, and no idea where any of the above are actually going to.
@halfback-ragnarsson thornley is Oldham bound alongside ashurst..
Thanks CV,
I also saw Gannon, Jones and Nisbet are confirmed to leave Leigh. Jones had a stint with us, but I imagine he will continue with London, even though they are relegated. Gannon has been at York most of the season and I think he comes from Yorkshire. Don't know about Nisbet, but I liked his attitude when he was here.
Why cant we have a money bags person rather than Oldham. Jammy gits they are going to be strong like Leigh and Wakefield. 😡
